i've never bothered. once u have one release out you can then be pretty much authorised as the original owner. whenever i pick a new alias (not very often coz im a lazy twat) ill check it against discogs first to make sure nobody else has it out of courtesy

This topic cracks me up as I have run into a laundry list of problems along the way.

My last name is Sankey, and whilst there is some very credible nights out there like Sankey Soap (if you live in the UK you should know that place) there are also less relevant associations such as the following DJ. I'm sure he's a nice enough guy and probably very good at what he does but he is not me and not what I'm about.

Now for all you lovers out there...
There is also a DJ Sankey Sank (THIS IS NOT ME!), but I have had people ask, eek!

With regards to my TA Moniker, DJ Nemesis of California sent me my first ever PM on TA, with a pseudo aggressive tone damanding to know if I used the name DJ Nemesis. Of course the answer is no, for the most part, I actually only used it briefly as an alias when playing another style of music and ditched the 'DJ' part. I actually did a search on the net for DJ Nemesis and there are a fair few out there so DJ Nemesis (CA) must have frequent rants. Fair play to the guy, he is sticking up for what he does but I would have had more respect for him if he had approached me differently.

These days I have taken on Nem as a producer name, probably just because it's grown on me. With regards to DJ name it depends on what I am playing.

With regards to copyrighting names, well it's a snake pit and sometimes totally insane. For the most part I just focus on the content of what I do and the name thing will sort itself out in time if it has to (Don't get me wrong, from a marketing point of view it is important but you have to have something to market first).

Cheers
Nem
