Everton have played consistently well this season despite losing Rooney and then Gravesen, Taha: Fuck off, you are gay.

Liverpool obviously!

How can a team that finished fourth challenge the law with a team that one the Champions League. Finishing fourth is not that great to begin with.....

if it was agreed at the start of the season that the holders won't get a place then logically everton it is

but if nothing was agreed i have to agree that the holders should have the priority. winning a champions league is a bigger argument than placing 4th on a national league. besides since i remember every year the CL winner gets a place for the following year, so it's no more than a (good) tradition, i remember people getting all pissed when uefa got the 2nd placed into the CL so why shouldn't people get pissed with a 4th placed team, and prefer the CL winners?

and i'm actually kinda supporting everton now as i'm managing them on FM

The reason for this is that every team that has won the CL so far has also finished in a CL qualify position within their league, so the problem has never risen before.

real madrid won the champions league in 2000 but finished 5th in la liga with zaragoza finishing 4th ... real madrid ended up getting the nod to play next year ...

what law? There is no rule for defending champions! You just don't start changing rules because the (possible but unlikely) defending champions didn't play well enough in their own league to warrant a spot in the next CL!

i was talking about the old champions cup days, where only the national champion qualified, and im sure there was quite a few situations when the european champion didnt win the national league. didnt knew about the real madrid situation, but it doesnt come as a surprise to me

Really? Ah they must have been talking about it in the context of the EPL or just shoddy journalism!

FA rules dont say 4th place is guranteed to be the champions league. IF the FA wanted, they could pick the 3 relegated teams to go to the champions league.

The winner of any trophy should automatically be able to defend their trophy

i beg to differ .... a team should never be given automatic qualification should they win a championship ... look at france in world cup 98 ... and its worse with clubs what if liverpool were to lose steven gerrard next season and not able to find a suitable replacement .. they wouldnt be as effective in the CL would they? and the leeds situation how their fortunes changed in just one season .. nope a team should always need to qualify to avoid situations such as this one ...and all football leagues should make a clear rule on who will get the nod should such a situation arise in the future ... they are idiots for not doing so already given that its already happened i think it benefits the big clubs ... not that i should complain considering i support one but its always nice to see a surprise package among the big guns you see all the time
