we pay a fairly decent wage, top earners on £30k a week ish, ie. okocha, diouf i think is on 25k, then other big names on similar. By not paying transfer fees, simply which we can't, we have the chance to pay a semi-decent wage, but remembering that many of the players we get have lost their way, we usually offer incentive based pay, good bonuses for wins & landmarks, and I think it's showing. We simply don't have the huge transfer fees unless we sell, and the only likely sale this summer would be Jaaskelainen if Man Utd or someone come in for him, then we'd get an equally good player for minimal fees (Jussi cost 150k) and make profits if needed. examples are
Gudjohnsen - free to us, 4.5m to chelsea
Curcic 1m to us 4m to aston villa (1998)
jensen - 1m to us, 4.5m to charlton
alan thompson - 200k to us, 4.5m to aston villa (1998 ish)
We are mainly just a sensible club, we don't spend out of our means, but we have a great spirit, and a manager who's one of the best i nthe country, maybe europe, especially given the job he's done with us in the last 6 years.
