I forgot I was the only person on earth that finds her talented.

P.S. Who do you think is a talented vocalist? Sarah McLachlan?

Well, a lot of people find Britney Spears talented, so your point was?

People who still sound good when their voices haven't been electronically processed and gone through shit hot mics and kit to make them sound good. No matter how good someone sounds on record, unless they can do the business live they aren't a good singer.

Well, since you seem so inclined to believe that you have all the answers you can start by telling us what the criteria is for making a vocalist talented or not.

Umm..That's quite false. There are some singers that don't do well while singing in public for other reasons than just not having a good voice.

Of course, this whole debate is banal when we realize that taste is going to play a factor anyway. What you may call "terrible" someone else might called "wonderful". For instance, I think Sarah McLachlan sounds mediocre record, so how is live really going to change anything? How on earth am I supposed to trust that Kirsty Hawkshaw is a bad singer live when you're saying that she's a terrible singer on record?

Public doesn't enter the equation. If someone is shy or suffers from nerves their voice doesn't get any worse, and they shouldn't be singing in public. Anyway, you can get live performances that aren't in public.

The point is: singers that still sound good outside the studio. It doesn't matter where, as long as it's live singing.

EDIT: And don't pull the bullshit card and try and say its down to opinion. What someone's voice sounds like is not opinion. There are clear ways to tell if someone can sing: their range, how well they hold notes and how long they hold notes etc.

Oh, I agree that there are standards, but it still comes down to opinion, period.

And btw, going by the correct standards, Kirsty Hawkshaw is a very talented singer.

According to people that actually have heard her live she can't sing. I respect that she's your favourite singer, but until you've heard her sing outside the studio you have no foundation for calling her "talented". And that's a fact, whether you like it or not.
