Well, since you seem so inclined to believe that you have all the answers you can start by telling us what the criteria is for making a vocalist talented or not.

Umm..That's quite false. There are some singers that don't do well while singing in public for other reasons than just not having a good voice.
Of course, this whole debate is banal when we realize that taste is going to play a factor anyway. What you may call "terrible" someone else might called "wonderful". For instance, I think Sarah McLachlan sounds mediocre record, so how is live really going to change anything? How on earth am I supposed to trust that Kirsty Hawkshaw is a bad singer live when you're saying that she's a terrible singer on record?
