In the UK you have to deside basicly what you want to do straight off. You don't get to switch about much. Though the guys who couldn't hack engineering tended to "choose" to move "sideways" into management.

I figure I'd work as a translator. Translators are in high demand by both major corporations and government agencies, and since Germany is the worlds leading exporter at the moment, even above China, Japan, and the United States, german is a pretty good way to go at the moment. If not that I could always teach it, or teach english in Germany. Something like that.

I'd also consider some sort of english major, and be a journalist, writer, etc, but that's a stretch. Not a particularly stable sort of job.

Haha, man I'm in a similar position. Since grade 8 I've been going to this self paced school, where they don't care how often you attend or how you get your work done. I was originally put there because I was getting straight A's all through elementary, but since I've gone to this school I've been falling behind, mainly because I've only attended school 3 times in the past 2 years. Those 3 days I went I always handed in a shitload of work that I did at home, so apparantly, I'm a year ahead in some courses, a year behind in some courses, and 2 years behind in one course. I'm getting transfered to a regular school next year, but its going to be so fucked up because I'll be in some courses with people 2 years younger than me, and some courses with people a year older than me... If I chicken out, or think that being in such a fucked up situation would be too awkward, I'll just end up paying for night school I guess.

Man, what a fucking stupid idea, this self paced school. The only kids I've met that actually succeed in it are the ones that don't speak english...because the translators get them through it.

went to europe for 3 months. If you dont know what you want to do, I seriously recommend going to a community college and taking some general education classes, maybe even get your AA. Because, not worth spending 20,000 just to figure out what you want to do.

Unless you have that cash and dont care and are only going to

1)get a degree
2)party

took me 3 years to figure out what I wanted to do.

Take quarters off, travel, dont rush anything. Youll never be this young again so dont be in a hurry to get a career started. work to travel.

Don't think uni is the be-all-and-end all btw I've got mates who've done uni and not got "graduate level" jobs yet.

I've got mates a Artificial Intelligence & Robotics degree qualified guy, a guy with a Biology degree and a guy with a Mangement degree all of them either working in shops or not atall. Fair enough in time they will all probebly land good jobs but degrees aren't everything.

Most of the guys on my course are there because their 1st class and 2.1 degrees in electronic engineering wern't enough to get jobs.

Then again all the guys off my old course have got jobs (even though it's possibly easier than some of the guys I've mentioned).

^^ that's a little misleading. you won't be forced to work retail or fast-food if you don't get a degree. think about all the factories that pay pretty good, a buddy of mine works at simmons mattress making $28 an hour.. brings home about $1000 every week. he has no degree.

Yeah but the flip-side of that is the people who do the BS degrees (just for the fun...) and end up with shit loads of debt and no chance of a decent job.

Out of highschool, my parents forced me to go to college 1000 miles away for 4 years. It was the best thing they could have ever done for me. I wouldn't trade those college years for anything in the world. Your degree will just be icing on the cake. Its the experiences you have during those years that will last a lifetime. So my advice is, if have the means to go, head to college.

Seriously, I was good at art and went to college for a degree. If you have a hard time getting motivated, envision urself at your high school reunion. Don't be that smuck who hasn't done anything with his life.
