This isnt limited to kansas, they have already passed a bunch of anti-evolution stuff in georgia.

Supposedly it is crazy, something like they aren't even allowed to teach about single cell organisms anymore, my sociology teacher like last year was talking about it.

How can people so stupid run around and talk about how they came to be through intelligent design? I mean, there is no point in not letting people know that single cell creatures exist, especially when anyone cane get a magnifier and look, sigh.

Its actually sureal to read that state schools could even contemplate teaching intelligent design or creationism as a science. I just could not imagine my science teacher standing up and saying "right then, today kids..."

We had religious education (RE) in state schools but we had to do about ALL religions and their beliefs and it was what it was - religion, not science! (Altho its now called moral issues so they can teach stuff like how to be a teenage mother and starving marvins from Africa)

Kan. Debate Challenges Science Itself

By JOHN HANNA, Associated Press WriterSun May 15, 5:47 PM ET

The Kansas school board's hearings on evolution weren't limited to how the theory should be taught in public schools. The board is considering redefining science itself. Advocates of "intelligent design" are pushing the board to reject a definition limiting science to natural explanations for what's observed in the world.

Instead, they want to define it as "a systematic method of continuing investigation," without specifying what kind of answer is being sought. The definition would appear in the introduction to the state's science standards.

The proposed definition has outraged many scientists, who are frustrated that students could be discussing supernatural explanations for natural phenomena in their science classes.

"It's a completely unscientific way of looking at the world," said Keith Miller, a Kansas State University geologist.
