Yes I am being picky, part of the reason of this was to get this thread viewed more and more people interested. Though I do feel that after shelling out nearly £3500 on kit over the last 4 years, vinyl is the way to go, and I do not see Mp3 or CD DJs to experience the whole experience till you've been on vestax or technics tt's, and a proper mixer.
My setup for this mix was:
My computer for recording and CD burning, SB Live 128 soundcard, yes I know its crap.
Panasonic SCAK-48 stereo system with 2x200WATT speakers for recording.
2xCerwin Vega speakers, they're big, don't know the model number off by heart.
2xPioneer CDJ1000s
2xTechnics sl-1200 mk2 silver
Stanton RM3 mixer, bass eq has now gone, getting replaced with Vestax PCV-275 soon.
MoS DJ1001 headphones.
A mighty big table from IKEA to hold all the stuff apart from CV's and comp.
RavingLunatic, I suggest you choose whether you want to be a contestsant or a judge, sorry if that sounds shitty, but I think we shouldn't be both.

yeah, I guess I can't be both eh..
I'll be a judge instead I guess then.
as far as the mp3 debate? well.. turntables are better, but a tool is a tool. the music is what's important.

But no Mp3 sequencers allowed, all mixes must be live.
And for my pickiness, yes I do prefer vinyl over anything else, and at £5 each, for my set that's 8 vinyls so that's £40 minimum and promo's are expensive if you pay for them, Mp3's are free. Just bear that in mind.
What RavingLunatic is saying is right, I'm declaring it the end of the matter, lets get back on with sorting out the comp.
Here's what we have so far:
Contestants: Project T (Me!), R-Yeah, Quddha, t0ast!
Judges: Cyrax, DJ Dawn, Raving Lunatic
We need more competitors.
Also we need to decide on a format which the mixes are judged, i suggest this:
% for selection
% for accurate beat matching
% for inventiveness
% for whether judge likes mix
C'mon I'm runnin' on empty here, more ideas are needed.
Cyrax I need your address, can you e-mail it to me as you probably don't want to post it here. My e-mail is [email protected]
Sorry if my mix is a bit fast for ya, I had to speed it up by 4% so it fits on a tape, slow it down again when you get it if you want. I also lost my bass eq durind Mauro Picotto - Lizard, so I had to start messing around with different ways to eliminate bass crossovers. On Silverblue - Step Back I had to mix from the start of the vinyl, so I was lucky to get away with that one.

personally my dream setup is what I got down there in my sig, (with silver tech12 MK3Ds though), VTT with a good computer, 2 soundcards and monitor, and 2 Pioneer CDJ1000s. I could hook it all up to the DJM600, and be good to go!
unfortunately, I need about $5000 or more canadian for all that, so I'll just have fun mixing my mp3s with VTT for now.

Ugh, i know what you mean. I've spent $3000 on dj stuff and vinyl already, i feel the dent in my wallet.. BUT thanks to OSAP i won't have to pay it back for a few years. hehee
$700 CAN for a technics turntable.. ridiculous!

It's okay toast man, you can mix without eq if you can avoid conflicting basslines, you just have to know your music inside out. Beacuse I lost my bass eq for the whole mixer on my Stanton RM3 during my mix out of Picotto - Lizard, so I just had to move the x-fader in a way I would do when I used to scratch to only catch the snare whilst mixing, it becoms very hard but it is possible to still give a good set, which I hope I have done. Have a go with VTT that program has EQ. Its coming your way soon Cyrax, its all burned, wrapped and ready to send. I'll probably go down to the post office tomorrow if I can.
Do you want to set a closing day for entering competitors and then a mix deadline, where all has to be in?
I also think toast has a valid point. Could there be possibly be 4 sections:
marks out of 25 for track selection and play order
marks out of 25 for beat-matching
marks out of 25 for transition harmonics (eq, speed of transitions, phasing, etc)
marks out of 25 for overall judge impression and other areas (pleasing mix, sampling/layering of tunes if you use it, scratching if you use it)
That way it will give an overall percentage. Do you guys agree?

sure
sounds good to me.
personally, if a mix makes me want to get out of my chair and dance around like a crazy person, then that's a good mix.
all the other stuff is just what makes it a good mix.
so, uh yeah..
let's hear some mixes! I've been listening to DJ rapture sets for 2 weeks, so it's gonna be tough to impress me.

I don't know about you guys, but I've got exams coming up.
So I don't think that you will be having a lot of time to be mixing and stuff.
Closingdate for DJ's => how 'bout December 1st
Closingdate for Mixes => how 'bout Januari 1st
|
Closing dates sound good to me, that way there is not an overflow of DJs, and seeing as almost everybody who looks regularly in this part of the forum probably would have looked at this by now I think its fair, and it has been in the top 3 threads, generally the top thread though. Mixes by January 1, that seems fair also as 56k-ers like me wouldn't get it online if it wasn't for the help of people like Cyrax
Do we have an agreement on the marking scheme?
I also have exams, my GCSE mocks start on Thursday so I'm not gonna be to involved with this project for a week or so, actually fuck that, I'm with this all the way
