Also a lot less painful than the lower back, considering that would be on your spine (ouch!). If you want to get another one on your lower back after then go for it, but at least you'll know how to care for it better, and how much more careful you'll need to be with it.

actually i find that the ankle was the most painful area to have tattooed! i have tattoos on both ankles, as well as my lower back, and the back of my neck. the lower back was the least painful.

i hate how everyone says "oh get it somewhere unique, not the same place every other girl gets it". tattoos just happen to look good in certain areas - lower back, shoulder, ankle, etc... i'm not going to get a tattoo on some crazy area like my elbow or the back of my leg just to be "unique". if your tattoo is unique enough (ie: NOT a butterfly or some generic tribal design you chose off the wall at the parlor), it doesn't matter where you put it.

anyway, theresa, to answer a few of your questions...

ask around and find out from people what artists and parlors they trust. word of mouth is usually the best way to find the good ones. nowadays you aren't going to run into too many places that are not meeting the hygiene standards unless you're in a really slummy area. you can pretty much tell right away if you're at a good place or not. don't let the price scare you away either. if someone throws you a deal that sounds too good to be true, it probably is. when it comes to putting permanent art on your body, you really do get what you pay for.

i would recommend going with something small and simple for your first tattoo. you don't wanna go insane with colors and designs the first time. tattoos are addicting, and once you get one, you're going to want more. you can always have stuff added to your first tattoo, or even get it covered up with a new design eventually if you grow tired of it. choose something that is meaningful to you. if you can draw, draw something for yourself. don't just choose a cool looking design off the wall just because "it's cute"...

personally i'm not a big fan of colored ink. all my tattoos are just black. i think color fades way quicker and it ends up looking "old" in just a few years. my black tattoos are still really sharp looking, and my oldest one is 4 years old.

when you decide on a design that you REALLY like, wait 6 months and look at it every day. imagine it on your body. if after the 6 months you still really love it, then go for it.

good luck choosing a design! first tattoos are fun. and please, whatever you do... don't get a butterfly or a chinese symbol.

My friend got 4 iron crosses in a band around his forearm because his grandfather fought as a pilot in the war and was highly decorated. He got the tattoo to honor him.

Ive been working on my tattoo for about 4 years now and still isnt where I want it to be, although its damn close.

Choose something meaningful!

I still say go for ankle because when a girl wears a summer dress and some laced sandals (yah know the ones that wrap up to ankle...

just sexy.

Of course im a freak for girls with tats and piercings so giggidy giggidy giggidy if you get one

i completely agree. i drew my own designs for a lower back and back of the neck tattoos. the one i drew for my lower back KIND of looks tribal, but i'm okay with that because i designed it. the artists at the parlor wouldn't have any trouble doing something i drew myself, would they? and i agree w/ you about the black ink thing, although one of my friends got a star that was colored red and pink swirls...it looked pretty sweet.

i don't like how lower back tattoos have gotten cliche for girls. it's a very practical place to get it done! you don't always have to look at it, it's not going to be affected by aging or pregnancy, but a lot of guys call it the "tramp stamp" it pisses me off!

so true

I would get a tatoo, but i'm too indesicive. i keep thinking how it will look 30 years from now, and wondering will I still appreciate it then?

thats why i got my eyebrow pierced instead, less hassle, make a statement for a year, too it out, felt like i never had one. it was a fad.

lmao so just because a woman has sex and happens to have a tattoo in a certain place, she's a slut?

sorry to break it to you, but women are gonna have sex anyway, regardless of where or if they have tattoos.

the only way a woman can be a "slut" is if she doesn't respect herself or her body. the end.
