I haven't heard him DJ either but I've heard only good things, hence the excitement
This thread is the first I've seen with people actually criticising him for anything. He's one of the best young trance talents in the world as far as I can see, and he's British, and already there's people slagging him off. Its pathetic imo.
I can instantly tell a J.O'C production and instantly tell an Askew one. Yes he's definately been influenced by Askew, but there's tonnes of differences in the structure and the style of tracks.. Askew's are nearly always a break that just ends with the beat coming back and no "big riff" involed: just really driving set-building tracks. J.O'C on the other hand mostly does huge Euphoric trancers with really catchy melodies. Only an idiot would say "ooh he's just an askew wanabe" imo. Someone's trying to look cool by being controversial methinks |
actually it has nothing to do wit controversy. What you're seing is justa difference in generations. On the one hand, you have those who b elieve they've lived thro the best eras that trance has to offer and have moved on tastewise to something a bit more intelligent, be it other genres or just trance that doesn't sound like it's made in 30 minutes in a program with a vst involved, and the newer people, maybe those who didn't do 95-2002 ish in trance and failed to see the glory days, and are left with the new stuff, not realising how good it was, and that the 'controversial' people are not just haters but people who're striving for consistency and quality in productions from producers who've lost the plot in that case.
That doesn't make them cocks or anything, just knowledgable people who have standards that are not being met, hence the death of trance in many peoples minds and a feeling of being let down. If that makes those people cocks in your opinion then so be it, but they could do a lot worse than find out what tunes made us fans etc
