keep a goal in your mind, if your goal is to be one of the best trance/house/techno producers of all time, then don't let it go, keep fighting for it, like ethereal says, you never know what is coming your way, but if you give up, then certainly you'll NEVER know.

Well 3 months ain't that long, expect to be in it a few years before you get the music sounding like you really want it to sound. I'm into production for 6 years now and I can tell my biggest steps forward were because of the help of this community and others.

I was listening to your rap track, and I thought.. what an idiot is behind this.. but when I came to that beatbox I was like whahaha this is just a fun piece of funny crappy dutch rap. And it's just what it's all about: experimenting and having fun.

At the end you'll have the contacts (important!) and the producing capacity to reach a big crowds.. but you need to put time in this. But

I sead i'd been producing SERIOUSLY for the last 3 months. I'v been producing for about 4 years on and off. Only started getting serious once I got some new equipment, an MC-909. That really sparked something in me and now i'm a 30 hour a week producer. It's a heck of a lot of fun, but I really want to get better and better.

Anyway, i'v only had the track The Origin - Dialogue on their for a day and already it's no. 77 in the trance charts! I don't understand why, i'v heard a lot of better tracks on no. 600. What makes me stand out I think is that i'm a sample-man, not really a synth-man, bit oldfashioned I know. At least, thats until I get my Virus Ti, I have a picture of it above my bed. I kind of refuse to use Softsynths.

Have fun doing what your doing,

The Origin

Music is as universal to people as breathing. We've probably been at it since before we even started talking. Immaging two cavemen smashing away at a peace of flint to make a spearhead. It wouldn't take long for them to learn te synchronise the sound. And there you have it, the words first percussive band.

Music has survived wars, famines, the plague and many other things and has evolved with man across many cultures. Dance music is just the next step in the evolutionary chain. My guess is that it will probably be with us untill we are extinced.

Just listened to Solidity and Evolution. You got nothing to worry about man... your tracks arn't bad especially if they've been done on a groovebox. Most importantly it sounds like your starting to devleop a style already, which I think is going to become more and more important the more widespread production gets. If your sound is like no-one elses then thats something which is going to stick out and stand you apart from the crowd, regardless if its a style which is popular or if its 'signable' as such.

I see people straight out of high school trying to get signed and think... your either going to be the next armin or your going to burn yourself out real quick. Having that much gusto and sticking yourself in a studio 24/7 at that age... I dunno it can't be good. Shit.. go out and enjoy clubbing while your young and innocent before you spend the next 5 years trying to pump out the next hit!!

Thanks man, glad you liked the tracks. Just spent about half an hour drooling over a music magazine. Theirs just so much equipment I want! I worked it out and I'd have to spend about 10.000 Euro's. Almost makes me want to phone grandad up and say "Boo" realy loudly... Sick joke I know, sorry about that.

Kink regards,

You know... equipment isn't all that, especially when it comes to expensive hardware (even then software can also be quite costy)

Axolotyl is very right though, try to have some fun in real life as well, I think it's still much more important. Where else to fall back on when you'd like to quit or just put it on a hold for a while?

Basically, I don't know if 'quality' still comes in first place when it comes to trance music. Nowadays, it's more oriented to 'quantity', say how many djs play the track or how many people pushing it forward.

I think you'd better post such things in the amateur production forum...

Hey mate!
Producing is like life. You born in a world completely new and after some days-months-years you realize that everyday that pass is a lesson for you.You can learn more and go one step forward or you can stuck at the same point for 'ages'.
Maybe now you sound too 'amateur' but if you trie harder and dont want to stuck one day you will be ready to make the big move.I'm sure about this
Anyway nothing comes without pain...
I'm new to production like you and now I'm starting to understand about mastering-recording-software and all these things. And something else.If you want always to move forward you must never stop to learn.
Never give up!
Nice music by the way

Hey Icone,

I listened to the tracks on your site, excellent mate! Not only technicaly but also musicaly very good. I was wondering if you had a track from WAY back when your tracks were about as good as mine, just as a curiosity. And how long was that ago?

I reckon I have it in me but just need a lot of practice and some better equipment. The equipment isn't everything. Maybe I need a little more patience with my tracks too. Most of my tracks I spend about 4 hours on and that's it.

Hey, and a friend of mine wants to know when the Shokk release is coming out and where to get it on vinyl?

Thanks!

Ah well, I kinda feel embarassed when I hear them now Actually, I don't have them online anymore I think, but if you like I can always send you one of them. Few of my oldest tracks I have online are here (from 2002-ish):

Lightworks - On My Way (Original Mix)
Infinite Streams - Fahrenheit (Original Mix)

4 hours is VERY short for one track, I usually take a few weeks on-and-off on them. Sometimes you just need to drop things and think some things over, so you can make it better when you get at it again. Be sure to try alot of things with the equipment you already have, you'd be amazed what you could do with practice, experimenting and experience.

My remix of Shokk will first be put on the Streetparade CD compilation. I heard from Shokk that there will also be a vinyl release, though I have no exact date on that one yet. I'll post it on my website when I have more news about that

Bye,
Wim
