effects are used either by very bad dj's that can't mix (not beatmatch) or very good djs in order to add a few more sounds...

I wouldnt part with my S5000's for shit. The rubber buttons on them are great especially when your trying to pitch bend. You can get a lot of travel in them and as a result feel very tactile.

Yes, they have more features and are more complex, but learn to mix on these and you can pick up the idiot proof Pioneers within 15 minutes. Shit, I'm not even going to go on about the features cos its embaressing to Pioneer owners.

Thank you. Wanna be friends?

Nope, there is NO metal in the 1000's, except the case underneath. When you pick it up it feels like a $40 DVD player you got at WalMart. The buttons and wheel have a nice feel to them, and the performance of the unit is great, but I do wish it had a more solid feel to it for a grand.

Toy like? No, they are rubber and feel different for sure, but they aren't "toy like". I do like the Pio's better though (that's what I have). I wish the Pioneer was built like the 5000 though, they are very heavy and solid.

All this debate over button?! What about the inbuilt 30 seconds of sample data, the choice of rotating or pitch bend platter, up to 4 cue points or loops, platter effects like drag and echo, reverse play and dump, ability to play 2 tracks at once or play the same track on two channels with a delay offset? Oh sorry, I forgot someone said the buttons look like toys. Yeah.. get a Pioneer.

Lets face it, if you want to mix creatively, originally and try out the new possibilities that the best CD decks will allow... get a Dennon. If you want to look cool, think your Tiesto, blend in with the rest of the Pioneer crowd and are scared of ever walking into a club and not knowing how to use their setup straight away... get a Pioneer.

a cd player that is built on features and buttons - therefore toy like...but regardless a dj ain't a dj i guess unless he can press a button and add a break, or oh wait and echo...if you don't know how to mix the denon's won't make you better. yes they have tons of features, which if used corectly will add to your set. but in order to use each feature a few times during a 2 hour set you'll have to play each song for about 6-7 minutes to have enough time to add one or two effects on it (unless of course you use effects when you bring in your cued song, opps i didn't mean to spoil your trick here). don't get me wrong but unless you're playing for 10 people, i woudln't want to hear a song for 8 minutes, to every beat, and see you press a button and make an echo, loop or bring in some sort of an addition, i want to see your skills, amaze me with your track selection. tell me your story of how you make me enjoy my time if i pay to be there. play me the essential part of the song, get me in a trance where i can say yes, he build upon his talents. now if you can only pull of a set with your denon features, then how do you expect others to respond?

So something that is built on features and buttons (back to the buttons I see) is a toy? What logic is that dude?

No, I dont play at clubs and no I dont charge for entry to the parties that I do play at. So therefore that makes my opinon invalid or something does it? I already stated that if you want to have a deck with features then Dennon is the one to go for, if you want to mix at clubs, then go the Pioneers.

And I really have no idea what your referring to when you say "using effects to bring in my cued song" and that your somehow spoiling my trick? Yes, most DJ's have tricks. Isnt that what its all about? If you can explain this better, I might be able to respond to it, but your just not making a lot of sense here dude.

What has time got to do with applying effects? Your saying it takes 8 mintues to do a trick with a deck? What sort of trick are we talking here? Not really dude... for example... set up your cue... 3 sec reverse play... followed by a backspin with a flanger for arguements sake and then cue back into a loop. OK, thats like 4 tricks or effects in the space of about 5 seconds mate. Something like that is a bit excessive (but can sound excellent if you do it right), I'm just showing that fx dont need to dominate a set. But then I mix psytrance and tech which is a lot more forgiving of experimenting and beatchopping than what uplifting is, which seems to be based mainly on track selection and not clashing the melodies.

Anyway, I'm preaching to a brick wall here. Pioneer and trance are synonymous. OK, you win Dennons buttons are GaY =)

I'm sorry but more bells and whistles on a turntable doesn't make you a better DJ, it doesn't make the turntable better, and it shouldn't be the reason you buy a specific brand either.
