HAHA all that arguing over the death of the dj.

i was talking in the context that dj stands for Disc Jockey and with ableton there are no discs involved.

I'll never stop spinning vinyl, but using ableton along with vinyl would be a good balance.

I just dont like the fact some people play solely off ableton, sure it takes talent but nobody wants to goto the club to watch me code C#.

i see what you mean, i wouldnt want to mix just 1 format either.

but it seems technology is taking us t oa place we would of absolutly hated 4 or 5 years ago

if a dj at a major event started mixing of a laptop back then, he/she would have been absolutly roasted.

but i spose its all about going with the times....

i wouldnt want to see every dj using ableton tho,

put it this way.... how would u feel if you went to see armin or van dyk or whoever and they DJed sitting down?

its a similar effect

This is the stupidest fuckin discussion ever.

Of course Ableton is the future...Sasha is pumping out mixes like no one has ever heard before. Everytime you see him live its like getting a mix CD. He can do transitions that are just not possible with vynil/cd...

with vinyl and cds you have control directly over the discs. thats where the jockey comes from.

with PCs you have a mouse.

My thoughts,

Sure you can spin some records in a very flowing manner and get those solid transactions and lay down those floorfillers and whatnot, that's great. With this live shit though, bro, I downloaded the live laptop symphony that BT did at Two Tribes, and that shit was off the roof. I'd easily pay 100 bucks to see that... And if other DJ's are doing this too, thank fuck! It's amazing what they can do with this peice of software, it brings a whole new world that just wasn't possible with reg decks, the unique and diffrent things you can do with Live are endless pretty much. Now i'm not saying reg djing should die, hell no, just that they have another weapon to use in their arsenal.
