Finally!!! Someone on this AUTA i can agree with!!
@ batemanscott - You get the "lets get extremely fucked up" crowd wherever you go these days. Funny how it always seems to be related to the people who listen to the 'harder' music, like the crowd at GK won't be off their heads LOL |
Im not saying u dont get em everywhere, just that with the hard scene the percentage of munters like that is way higher than other genres.

And funny your overseas friend said the 'hard dance' scene is dying out, when obviously, with such huge parties and djs in Europe, it's still kicking. You can't compare that to what we have here.
|
ur wrong there mate, the hard parties numbers are going backwards big time. look at dj mag top 100 for example, its a plain and simple popularity contest but how many hard djs do u see up there??
Hard is dying worldwide and we are only now catching up with the global trend.

*btw, im not having a go at the style or the ppl, just stating facts

Never, ever use the DJ mag top 100 to support an arguement on Dance music. How many people here actually think ATB should be in the top 10? And populatiry contest it may be, but not even a good one at that. When 3000 people from montreal can vote in a block for one of their locals to make the list, how can it truely be a reflection of the millions listening to the music?
That poll has nothing to do with global trends or even regional ones when it comes to Dance music. How many jungle or drum and bass DJs were on that list? Yet Drum n' Bass is absolutely huge in Britain, and now in South America, argueably two of the greatest places to party in the world these days. It's just that most the DJs playing those gigs are merely locals and don't have the same international stature that uplifting trance or progressive DJs and that in no way indicates a struggling genre.
And as for hard trance attracting the 'wrong kind of crowd', most people who do break into the scene go thru a period where they become more interested in the drugs than the music. I've seen it for years, it was the candy kids listening to hardcore at the old toronto raves, and when our rave scene collapsed, the 'wrong crowd' became the e-tarded uplifting trance fans. Cut them some slack. Most of us have had a night or two where we've actually been embarassed at our own drug use. Hopefully after 6 months or so they'll grow out of that phase, and those who still love to party will be great people to support your scene for years to come.

I think for the harder stuff to survive, it has to get a bit smarter, a bit techier or something - if someone was to come out and be melbournes answer to marco v they would kill it.

Sounds like you guys are in dire need of some proper house, some vitamin Lawler. If you can just imagine hard music happening at less that 140BPM, then house might be for you.

+1. Strong scenes come from strong locals. Strong locals encourage good parites and good productions, good productions put a city on the map, and a city noted, is a city well supported by internationals.

Couldn't have said it better myself Andy. Too much generalising eh
A few people have mentioned 'Australia is finally catching up' with the 'trance' scene.....Imagine if the house scene takes over....QUALITY house like you guys are blessed with in Canada. Australia needs a good dose of Danny Tenaglia, Lawler, Chus & Ceballos..just to name a few.....then there'd be no turning back..... You got me!
Andy.......just read your Sasha/Lawler review.......my God.....what a crazy party....Skybar would have been amazing, especially seeing them two tearing it apart together !!! WOW!! I need to go back to T.O.

Sly guy, it is a plain and simple " popularity" contest, which tells us what? you guessed it! "whats popular"!!!!! Atb sucks balls, but he's obviously popular, so my point is still on the money.

I live in Melbournes cbd and have the pleasure of watching melbournes little kandy kids gurn their heads off out the front of my apartment building every weekend.
I have been to quite a few hard nights and used to enjoy hard trance quite alot so i also have had the pleasure of seeing first hand how fucked up the "majority" get at hard nights. I didnt say other genres have none of this, just far far less and they are not as openly munted in public every weekend.
