There's alot of well-known producers having a different guise for their more commercial side of trance/dance. So I'd go with that idea myself

Being able to produce "cheese" doesn't mean you can't produce anything more serious (and vice versa), there's enough examples of this. Besides, "good cheese" isn't always that easy to produce either - not all "cheese" works well on the radio.

No, I think this is certainly true. A label wouldn't approach you as a trance artist to make an r&b remix either. If a label comes to you, it's most of the time because they heard your track somewhere and would like your approach on one of their releases.

I think this described scenario in the main topic isn't that realistic. A label sure can ask you to do some edits to their likings (they're all people, with their own style and impressions after all) - though they will also let you free to use your own methods.

I'd say take those cheesy vocals and bake them in a souflée of cheddar, swiss, havarti and Monterey Jack; slather with icing sugar, hot fudge and maple syrup; fry it with 7 sticks of butter; soak it in fruit punch for 12 hours, and definitely, definitely, don't forget the candy cherry on top.

Then make up an equally cheesy pseudonym like "Frank the Phat Funky Freestyler", attach it to the track, send it on down, and use the massive infusion of beautiful cold hard cash to buy a truckload of synthesizers, mixers, high-end DAWs, DSPs, and the entire Vienna symphonic library, and a new house to put it all in, so you can start producing serious music under a serious name and do a mighty kick-ass job of it because your equipment is better than what most Hollywood studios have.

Really, what kind of goofball says "no" to a fistful of clean, honestly-earned cash?

If yes treat your music like a buisness. If no stick with the day job and continue with producing as a minor hobby.


Music is a buisness and there is no such thing as selling out if you want to break even after speding all that money on gear.

the label would dump you the contacts are gone becuase they all wanted more cheddar and u couldnt provide it becuase it just isnt you.Or you could go down that road get a hit and become a one hit wonder only to be remembered is the loser and king of cheese on vh1's where are they now.
