gladly,
when PvD played Sandstorm at mayday 2000, before we starting finding this tune on compilations, before MTV got their hands on it, before the radio played it 9 months later. People were not saying that it was cheez, people were enjoying it, at that time, the lead synth of that tune sounded really different from most of the other trance coming out, something about that tune stood out a bit from the rest of them, despite having that same bloody trance formula.
It wasnt until the radio started playing it when the interviews came out asking PvD why he played a cheesy song, the song became cheesy after it got big.
If Darude's album wasnt full of filler and copies of that one tune we very well could have been still respecting it. At least that is the way things appear from where I live, maybe things are different in the more densely populated areas where people get the chance to party more often.
I was not old enough or rich enough to have attended mayday 2k, so maybe kids did clear the floor when he dropped that tune, I really have no way of knowing, but from the sound of the crowd on the mp3, it seems like it was a success.
