I saw this topic, laughed. Read your initial post, laughed harder. Every form of entertainment, music, movies, theatre, sports, etc. is written about online. Every joe blow and his uncle and dog has got something to say about whats out there. Sometimes this can be a good thing, as an occasional kernal of information is passed along. However, for the most part people are jsut expressing their personal and therefore unobjective viewpoints on various matters. I know DJs visit this site, which I think is cool. But, if a DJ is honestly going to take to heart what a bunch of people say on a message board then he should mature a bit. Just worry about keeping the dancefloors you play for happy, not some unkowns in a forum.
As for the allegation that we (members of tranceaddict I am taking it) are killing the music scene is not just incorrect, but makes my face go red and my brows furrow . Go to the CD/Review board, you have people getting the word out about every freaking release from Oakenfold to Bedroom DJ #124901349. Next, take a trip down to the amateur DJ and Producer's forums, will you see people from all over the world trying to get people to notice their talents. If the attitude of this site was so negative we would jsut all come to a consensus that trance is dead, prog sucks, dnb causes deafness, and Oakenfold looks like a monkey. There would be no discussion, no 20 page threads of what are you listening to... You comments are assanine, and the only thing that is killing the music scene is you going around spreading your nonsense. |
amen, brother.

Just wondered what your thoughts were on this?
I have notice how annorak like some peoples comments are on this website and how tune spotting a lot of you are. Which is fine as everyone is entitled to do what they want and talk about what they want.
However Almost every dj i have spoke to about this subject thinks that you guys are killing the industry. Due to constant moaning, Every dj has to play the newest stuff out or they will be barracked and slated by people on forums such as this one for playing tunes that were(dare i say it!) one month old!!
Also if a single mix goes out of place they are labelled a rubbish dj and are also in line for a Slating. This i find most unfair.
Now I don't know what you all listen to dance music for but I for one listen to it to have a good time and because i enjoy the music. This was what i originally did for a few years but i have felt since 2000 people have started taking dance music far too seriously due to people being what i would say is a bit to geeky about dance music.
Now I expect to be called every name under the sun after stating this but i would appriciate some constructive critisim back if you are going to say anything.
Your Thoughts???? |
that's what it's like in the commercial scene, and everyone is out there to make money for djing, so people are entitled to moan all they want when dj "x" get £500-1000+ for 90 minutes work. in the underground scene it's a lot different, but that's another story.
the only thing that is "killing the scene" is people all out there for money rather than good music. people here moan when crap music is being produced which is a fair point, and since 2000 the music has got less about making good and fresh tunes and more about being the next big hit. you must blatently be somebody in comemrcial scene anyway, maybe some dj/producer who isnt getting any gigs anymore it coz he plays/makes the same old crap "trance by numbers" all the time. the reason i get this iompression is that from all the time ive been into music only people from the scene share your view because something has gone wrong with their popularity.
i think the only thing the internet has done has greatly opened the field of discussion on how good and artist/tune is or not, otherwise how else would they know? some magazine ad which just praises them as if it is practically an advert? nobody is gonna go up to a dj in a club and say" hey mate, this tune is a bit shit, it sounds just like your last one" are they?

believe it or not but if a producer of Dj is truly good then they won't be underground for much longer, they'll get signed up to a recording label and be 'forced', i repeat forced to create music that will please the public
And don't rant about useless shit, at least when i'm havin a go at someone for useless shit its just for fun but some people here take some of this a little too seriously, at the end of the day its music and believe it or not there are gonna be people with different opinions on the topic.
As for me, i don't think its killing the music scene at all, in fact i think its strengthening it the fact that someone can easily sign up to this and get a peek into some EDM.
As for the dumb fuck who mentioned alcohol, i never drunk alcohol till i was 18, purely to prove a point to a certain group of people, i proved my point and now i drink, i used to go out before i was 18 and it was never about the drinks, never is and never will be, i enjoy my beer as much as the next person but i don't think you have to be drunk to go out, sometimes it can make it more enjoyable and sometimes it can make it much worse ...
As for DJ's trainwrecking and being abused on this ... i never once abused Deep Dish for completely fucking up when they came down here, there set was a disaster and they deserve to be shot but apparently Danny Howells was a god and had one of the tightest sets ever, but who really gives a fuck, i'm sure as hell Deep Dish are gonna pull crowds as big if not much bigger than the ones they did in canberra, when it comes down to it people are on here to express themselves and you lot judging them is constraining there freedom to talk, lots of people on here probably don't get heard much normally so they may talk on here where they feel they are heard, i really don't know

Interesting thread, been a good read.
Well I wouldn't underestimate the 'power' of TA; it's in the top 100 of all forums (including say car forums) worldwide and so when googling tune artists and titles there is a fair chance you'll end up here. The vast majority of posters here have extensive knowledge (and the trance appreciation gene); many have trance expertise. A little appreciation from the artists for the people that sacrifice some time to write sensible reviews, wouldn't be out of place. In fact, I think TA is playing a more significant role in the scene month after month.
It's up to the reader to determine whether or not reviews are founded and if the mistakes pointed out are significant.
I have decided, some 2yrs ago, to obstain from writing destructive reviews (which I never really did), instead I just STFU. My reviews almost always review tunes, rather than sets. A TL is all the review I need of a set, quality mixing is a bonus for me (unless off course it goes horribly wrong at numerous transitions).
Also if everyone (like me) writes positive reviews all the time, the forum would lose some of it's credibility. But you do have a point of course, I've seen flame sessions here OMG.

Hardly always the case. Take amateur DJs for example, especially the ones I've seen many a time in New York. Oftentimes they don't even get paid for gigs, yet spin some commercial nonsense inasmuch as they don't know any better. |
Of course, but this is totally irrelevant to the issue I addressed, namely:
