Ok, i'm normal again. I like the fact that it can be rewired into FL!

Haha, FL vs. Reason is like Windows 3.1 vs. OS/2.

What i like about reason 3 is the combinator, not just the combinator instruments but also the combinator effects , really cool.

But what i dont like is the hit on your processor using loads of combinators has.

I can no longer run my tunes and im using an Athlon 64 3200 with 1gb ddr ram

The sequencer captures midi messages of device note on and off, but how do I actually capture an audio segment in the middle of a sustained malstrom/subtractor wave? I figure one way is to loop with the L/R locators and export it as an AIF to be later used as a sample but I haven't tried it yet and I figure that might not even work because if the locators are after the note on message, the synth won't initiate. Is there a way to capture/record the sustained action of a synth between the note on and off positions?? oh yeh, reason tree is da shitz

Reason is just a rocking workstation synth. I love it re-wired to logic! Its just too instantaneous to pass up as a writing tool. My mac broke down not long ago and all i had was my PC with a copy of the reason demo installed so everyday while I was waiting for my Mac I would load up reason demo over and over and try to get something rockin in the 20 mins... used to go straight for subtractor scream 4 delay and matrix sequencer, and a redrum and make grooves. It really does make things fun...

That being said I have heard that when you rewire reason you should bypass the mixer because it does this evil summing of the sound and destroys quality. (inother words route subtractor or redrum strraight to the hardware interface outs not the mixer then outs)

Can anybody share some light on this?

even I know the answer to that and I don't even use reason

Some really precise people felt it was necesary for propeller to change the mixers as it did something with the sound. As of Reason 2.5 or 3 (I don't know which one) you can find a switch on the back on every mixer. This switch let's you choose between the old sound character and the more neutral sound character... So the answer to your question is: Don't worry about the mixers.

Another issue has been the hardware mixer, some guys also found out if you put in a basic sine it didn't came out as a sine. There were some internal effects put over the entire audio signal. This should also have been removed in 2.5 or 3.

what I like about reason is the compatibility, it's really easy to exchange projects (except with big refill usage). It is 100% sure to work on the other guys pc which is a lot different with other software.
It's also quite cpu friendly compared to VST synths..

What I dislike is the entire interface. Wires bah! Pianoroll bah!

Reason 3 is pretty neat, but I've been trying to figure out: Does it have an Arpeggiator or any tool that works in a similar fashion?

No not that i know of but you can use cubase sx and reason 3 in rewire mode, once u got it up an running you can then do some advance midi stuff theres a apeggiator but the trick is to do your sequence in cubase select a reason device lets say a subtractor and insert a midi plug-in like an arpeggiator.

I found this not tooo long ago,and it works !
The cool thing is u have more "MIDI" contol over ur reason devices !

well thats one of the reasons why i still use reason and cubase sx together !

Hope that helps !
