The Gov doesn't have to give out a helping hand, but they could use some of the government spending to build better infustructure in low-income areas. Good infustructure is what could build up a community.

Plus a lot of families are caught in a vicious cycle. People who have families to support and don't have a degree don't have a lot of options. They don't have the option of going to school and getting an accociates degree, because then they would have to make choices of where their income goes. Most people would opt to spend it on their family.

The Gov could also use more governemnt spending to subsidize post-secondary education. More "effective" workers would benifit the econmy greatly, but the high costs puts a strain on that.

So, I would say that the governemtn could spend more on building infustructure and subsidizing education. This is not the same as people leeching on spendings. It's not the governements fault, but they do hold some responsibility in building good infustructure in all areas.

I predict Bush will keep troops in Iraq, and ratchet up tensions with Iran, if not support a strike on Iran by either Israel or US forces. But you can be damn sure, the Israel lobby, Israeli diplomats, and military attaches are pushing the Pentagon and the administration to carry out the strike for Israel. The puppet government in Baghdad will continue its corrupt ways and will ultimately collapse if not for American support.

I find some countries just haven't been able to have law and order with civil rights.

The salute to soldiers and photo-ops happened, but not much else. Most recently the surge has seen more troops, not less. Any draw downs are simply pulling out some of the surged troops as far as I've seen it.

I think 2008 is going to be used to determine how / when troops leave. Bush is just licking wounds until he leaves now, all the attention is on who's going to clean up his mess.

Seeing as this was a three year prediction, any thoughts on 2010?

My call is US disengagement, protectionisim, and recession. Iraq will still be in civil war but Western troops will be all gone.
