I used to take along time to go to sleep, but getting into a pattern worked. Just go to bed when you feel tired, (keeping in mind that sleep before midnight is the most important), then wake up at the same time everyday, preferably no later than 10am.
When you get into a pattern you will probably find it easier to go to sleep. Don't fall asleep to your TV or stay needlessly awake when you're obviously tired. Also, your meal times play a big role. There's an old saying:
"Eat breakfast like a King, lunch like a Prince, and supper like a Porper"
Basically, if you eat a meal before going to bed it's gonna be hard to sleep because you have alot of energy while the food is being digested.
