Ok, no, that's simply not true. Yeah maybe in the short term it acts like an anti-depressant (duh), but *anything* that elevates serotonin levels will inevitably cause depression if used in excess. That's why doctors are so reluctant to put people on MAOIs and other "anti-depressants" - because they form nasty psychological dependencies.
Speed (methamphetamine) is actually far less likely to cause depression because it acts on the dopamine system, not the serotonin system. It causes much worse symptoms though; when you combine severe fatigue with the inability to eat or sleep, essentially the only way to cope is to take more drugs. That's why meth addicts don't last for too long... you just can't survive without good healthy sleep.
Sorry guys - just because most of the MDMA studies which showed negative results were falsified or conducted incorrectly does NOT mean it has no negative effects. Usually I don't let it bother me if some people are making a habit of it, because eventually those people start to burn out and take it less often - but just like weed, ecstasy has very real and very tangible side effects that frequent users will often delude themselves into thinking they don't have.
Non-chemically-addictive substances can still be psychologically addictive, and the first (and most important) step toward psychological dependency is the denial of side effects.
