I agree with this, but thats is the thing... newbies to the art of DJing dont go through the rigorous process of actually learning the craft the way it was meant to be done. They just go right to digital because it makes everything alot easier for them.

Sorry, but I just can't imagine a newb going for a Xone:3D and Live. Traktor, sure. Perhaps you need to do a little more research on Live, maybe even download a demo.

Like you said, there are people that know and others that dont. That same phrase can be applied to those who have used Live, and those who haven't. It's a breakthrough program, but, even so, I have no desire to not play vinyl. That's why the Xone:3D is damn near perfect. It's a quality traditional DJ mixer AND midi controller (possibly the best mass-produced Live controller yet) in one. What's not to like?

Any ideas on prices yet?? I was gonna get the new pioneer djm 1000 but i may hold off for this....

I saw a price on another forum in the $2000USD range.

Still cheaper than the DJM-1000.

Anyone else notice the lack of connections on the back? No mic inputs (not that I use them, but hey)? And no non-xlr main mix outputs (kind of annoying).

Dont get me wrong, I like this XONE:3D, but it seems that for less than half the price ($750 USD), you can get the ECLER NUO4, which has 85% of the MIDI capabilities (89 MIDI commands vs. 105), same sound quality, XLR outs, MIC in and is a bit more managable in size.

I would say that the NUO4 has more bang for the buck.

But the XONE:3D does have more sliders, which makes it more appealing to the Ableton crowd, plus the included soundcard device and analog filters.

But the Nuo 4 DOESN'T have 85% of the midi capabilities. Sure you can state the total number of MIDI commands, but that's only if you have knobs and sliders performing multiple functions. The Xone 3D has many many more distinct physical controls, which means much more simultaneous midi capabilities. See all those sliders? You can assign each one of those to a separate loop section in Ableton, no fiddling about with a mode switch.

I know the Nuo 4 is a great mixer at a decent price, but it's not in the same ballpark.

Yes, for sure, I agree. The NUO4 can have 89 MIDI commands in total, but only when you factor in the 3 layouts (which you can switch on the fly) and the A/B bank selector.

The NUO4 has 4 push/turn knobs and 4 switches (which all have 3 x 2 functions) and also channels 2-3 have MIDI capabilites (gain/EQ/FX send/bass off, upfader)....so technically, you have 4 turning knobs and 8 push buttons in the middle strip (which can each have up to 5 different functions), plus 2 faders (x-fader), 10 turning knobs, 2 push buttons and 2 switches on channels 2-3.

The NUO4 is made more for programs like TRAKTOR or FS or something of that nature, because of its layout and functions.


But I would keep them in the same ballpark, because at the moment, these are the only two mixers on the planet that offer this much MIDI capabilities.

With the release of this mixer, expect there to be alot more companies trying to make a program similar to Ableton.

how do all those sliders help in ableton? id prefer a large array of buttons i can assign to clips, i alreayd have sliders for each channel on a mixer

Each slider can be assigned to a loop section. The normal faders on the mixer are still connected to your CD players and TT's.
