The only reason I go is in hopes of doing way to many drugs and having a seizure on the dance floor that will cause me to die and then people can dance over my dead body

I think it’s a bit of both..
For instance I wont go see PVD because he used to be #1 omg he's the god.. I wont go see him because I just don’t like the style that he spins
But at the same time I do go see big djs such as tiesto and all.. because its tiesto.. cuz I want to say later on yes I did see him and I saw/heard for my self what he spins and if I liked it or not.

and of course I go to SEE this SEXY MOFO as well TOM STEPHAN

(my what a BIG speaker you have there )

....but then again - it could also be for all the HOT BOYS that come out whenever he spins - BONUS!!

it is true that the cool status of DJ's have progressed from the audiophile geek playing obscure records in the 80's - into the CULT OF THE DJ we have now......

I tend to agree with NFCwave - this is a North American thing mainly - the posturing of the DJ as a rock star - for marketability sakes....thank you record labels!

But Sasha was the first proclaimed "PIN-UP DJ"......up until then most DJ's were uggs/fatties that probably would never have gotten a piece of ass if not the fact they were a "JOCK" so to speak......

Things have changed Jay and the way we view things have changed - everyone has a right to see things as they see fit - even if us oldies tend to pooh pooh the young ones for their naivity or lack of experience/knowledge. That WE weren't able to experience this "Pinnacle of the DJ" from the view point that someone does know - does not discount their very real appreciation for what they are experiencing - just because my mother never graduated past her love for Atari - PAC MAN does not discredit everything that has been developed since then in the gaming world.....

Our culture (especially youth) is obsessed with teh beauty and superstar no denying it.....but let people enjoy it - the DJ's sure are - Tiesto, Armin, Ferry, PVD etc........they are making a mint and I am sure that they love that very much!!!!!

I go to see Dj's because I love the entire "experience" you get from it. It's just something you can reproduce at home.

The late nights, the lasers, the sound, the fact that you’re in a club and that DJ is playing live. Sure you can
listen to live sets of that DJ playing at such and such "massive event". And I am a firm believer that DJ's play WAY
better music when they are live rather than on a regular CD releases.

Being there first hand AND listening to that set later, it’s almost as if you re-live the entire experience.
I can tell you that most of the sets I just can’t stop listening to right now are from LoL and other events
I've attended this summer.

I go "see" a DJ because I can "hear" a DJ any day of the week.

First, I think you may be forgetting that even in NA, Trance is still very much a niche market, so most of the general population still sees the DJs as nothing more than people who throw vinyls onto a deck. I still remember some person not understanding how we can judge a DJ's skill if he doesn't EVEN know how to scratch.

Second, how is the perception of DJs any different in Europe? Do people shit all over PVD, AVB, and so on? If anything, Europe is what launches the superstardom of the DJs, and we're just along for the ride.

Edit: didn't wanna make a double post, so...

+1

Europe is and will most likely continue to have a foothold on producing the major players of music we listen to today.
And will also continue to throw the sickest party's imaginable.

Love Parade in San Fran actually surpassed anything I expected NA could do. I hope I don't get flamed cause
I'm a relative newb on what goes on in and around NA as massive events. Tiesto In Concert is great news as well.

As time goes on I think NA will eventually be riding with Europe. I feel there has been a major change, even
from the small viewpoint I have here in T.O. that more and more people are paying attention to the talent that comes here.

i wish i could send most of you ten years back in a time machine. youd see that "europe" was once in toronto until julian fantino, kiss 92 and hip hop ruined it. Then tiesto came to sweep up the pieces.

in fact its the BS of 99/2000 that got me into politics in the first place and made me realize just how much the government can ruin a society and ruin your fun for no reason.
