You know the point is to find the oldest. Since the oldest EDM track posted here was Pump Up the Volume (by yours truly) the point is to try and think of an older, successful track.

And I'm not sure that Autobahn counts as EDM.

oldest trance song, which Pump Up the Volume is not.

If you want oldest (edm) dance song, by any account.....how far back do you want to go? Michael Jackson - Billie Jean, technically. Yello - Oh Yeah. Human League - Don't You Want Me. Eurythmics - Sweet Dreams. Murray Head - One Night in Bangkok......etc....etc....There are at least 400 Synthpop, Freestyle, Electro and Italo records that charted in the first half of the 80s alone.

Electronic? Yep.
Danceable? Why not.
Music? Of course.

There's a difference between it being danceable, and being percieved under the cultural context of dance music: namely clubs and raves.

i can personally attest that I listened to Human League - Don't You Want Me on comercial radio in Los Angeles in the summer of 1981. i'm pretty sure that it might have been played in some new wave clubs in the LA or the Valley.

then again, Michael Jackson's Off the Wall (1979) was all over the air before Human League. and what about earlier disco such as Donna Summer - I Feel Love (1977) or Love To Love You Baby (1975) which may have made the first apearance in late 1975 or early 1976? i'm confident that these were played in clubs and radio.

but then again Mr. Mystery may be right. i can't confirm this yet, but autobahn may have charted in 1974, but i'm not sure if in sales or airtime.
