The whole night was like one driving pounding force of energy and my mind is still very scrambled from it all.
I drove down to Chris’s house to meet up with him and our new friend Alana. Alana just moved out from Chicago and this was going to be her first LA event. Chris and I are prepared to show her how we party it up Hollywood style. But little did we know Alana is a parting pro.
Got to Avalon around 10:30 and Victor was already on the decks. Usually I walk around a bit and don’t go on to the dance floor right away because I like to wait till it fills up more, but I couldn’t resist. Victor was already blowing us away. I really wasn’t expecting such and amazing, knock you down, kick your ass opening set. However Victor obviously showed no mercy to the crowed and Ferry. I have only seen Victor open or close a few times, and they were nothing like this. Victor wanted to own and make a lasting impression, which he did indeed. He didn’t seem to mess with the slow build up, while trying to conserve the crowd’s energy; he went buck wild from start to finish. OMG sooo many amazing tracks and alot with vocals which I completley die over. I really wish I was a track master like some of the other TAs on here, because I would list every track name that blew me away. Then again I am glad I am not, because I would have listed almost every single track Victor played, including my all time fave Swing to Harmony. His entire set had me smiling from ear to ear.
Ferry comes on around 1:00am; he does however start things out pretty slow for the first couple hrs in order to conserve everyone’s energy. Little did we know he was going to end up playing until a little past 6am. We decide to walk around a bit and I start running into a lot of my TA friends. Woody, Julia, Mike, Kris, Michelle, Danny and Lisa, Bob, Eric, Clovis, Tigo, Sarah (a big happy birthday), Rocky, Rez, Lomeli (007),Adriana, amongst others.
By the time I get back to the front of the dance floor, I see my friend Alana dancing up on stage. I am totally in disbelief. Wow this girl’s first LA event and she is able to quickly work her magic to get back stage with no VIP band. Whoooo hoooooo way to go Alana, I am ecstatic and so proud for her. She likes to have as much fun as she can and knows the way to achieve it. I think I just met my new partner in crime. She takes a break to come and find me, and right away she yanks me back stage with her. Awesome, this is so cool, cause the dance floor was really getting packed and it was getting hard to breathe out there. Ferry kicks it up a notch and starts laying down some awesome vocal tracks for the next couple hrs, including another all time fave of mine Force of Gravity. I am just singing my heart out to all of these beautiful songs.
I usually take a few breaks during the headliners set to walk around a bit and socialize, but Ferry then turns it up another notch and starts in with some real hard driving tracks and just wouldn’t quit. I couldn’t leave the dance floor, well for a few bathroom breaks, but then I was right back on the floor. Man on man, these tracks just keep getting more harder and harder. I think I broke my elbow, neck and back from bopping my head around and thrusting my hands in the air soo much. Ferry is killing me, I have never been able to dance non stop like this without taking breaks, but I just can’t bring myself to leave the floor. My feet and back are killing me, so much dancing with no breaks. Oh man then Ferry throws down Rock your Body Rock and the crowd looses it. It’s about 5am and we think this will be his closing track. The dance floor is still jammed packed and no one wants to leave, but then Ferry just keeps playing. This man just won’t stop, OMG he is just determined to leave no survivors. Then all of a sudden the main stereo system gets shut down and the only two speakers that are playing are the ones on stage pointed at him. He finally realizes they are trying to shut him down, but he’s not having it. He turns the speakers towards the crowd and just keeps going. Hey lays down more tracks and finally the main system turns back on and he continues to own us. Finally a little after 6am he closes out.
Oh god I am aching all over and can barley walk back to the car. But we are still not ready to call it a night. We head back to a friends house and end up spinning after hours until 11:30am. Geeeeez
This is defiantly an unforgettable night for me. I carried a smile on my face through out the entire night, and enjoyed everyone’s company. So much positive energy from most people in the crowd. For the few that came with negative energy, I say build a bridge and get over it. Negative energy only causes misery on the ones who are throwing it.
