my weapon could easily be recognised as a flaw too. My records tend to be too recogisable. Like probspot annoyingly recognisably, and probably with a similar sound to him even.

- vst that adds pauses to melody
- manager vst.. vst that emulates record labels boss.. whos gives you some feedback
- oldschool mixer vst... maker your sound more crappy

My secret weapon? I'm not really sure. I just muck around with things and whatever sounds good to me, I use. I'm into the symphonic electronica stuff, so I guess my perfect pitch and theoretical/musical background (I played the organ for a decade plus 5 years of concert band , 2 music composition classes and a course in computer music) come in handy. I've been told my pianos are really good, too.

Oh, and timpani. LOTS OF TIMPANI.

My secret weapon is also like it's namesake. But for beats, if I use a sampler or reason's Dr.Rex then I find that using a short decay and a 95% sustain on the amp envelope creates a unique snap that sounds different to a compressor.

imho if you've enough knowledge you can get out of boring sounds/synths quality things. producing has a lot to do with experience...
