Sure, Joe DJ and Joe Punter might not understand what I'm on about - but they're probably not the ones reading a thread about ableton live on a site called tranceaddict, either. I was kind of working from the assumption that the sort of person that would have any interest in reading a thread such as this in the first place would be the sort of person who already had a basic grasp of fundamental production concepts. *shrugs*

Haha... Funny thread! (long time no TA!!)

If anyone's interested in my 2c, I like Ableton because it gives you the potential to sound vastly different to other people. Whether you realise this potential or not is what makes or breaks you as an artist. You can give the tracks you play your own touch & expression even though somebody else composed them. People who cling to their mechanical ability to sync beats need to realise that most people can beatmatch given enough practice. When you take away the formula of mixing tracks into tracks, so it's more like mixing element into element, I think it's more conducive to true innovation. Anyone who beleives that doing this and making it sound good is easier than conventional mixing is welcome to show me how!! It challenges me more so than vinyl ever has. I'm still total shite at it and quite a way off taking it to the stage, but can't wait until I do reach that point!!

Peace.

Well, I'd tend to agree that its far from exciting to see a DJ (if you can call them that anymore) standing behind a laptop tapping away. That said, I like the idea of anything that puts more control of the sound into the DJ's hands, I just hope that this control will be used with respect and not become a lets-see-how-much-we-can-hack-the-shit-out-of-this-track.

I'm working on a project atm, that some know about, but not many (didn't want to make a big deal of it, incase it never really got off the ground, but it looks like it has). Haven't had much time for it, the uni thing gets in the way, but the uni thing is over in a couple of weeks and I'll have nothing but time to get stuck into it.

Just try and keep me still behind any kind of music machines!..

The second point is more likely where I'll trip up, although I hope to work through my hack-the-shite-out-of-this stage before I ever perform with it.

And that 'project' that has gotten off the ground as you say, I'm very keen to hear about. And my offer is still open btw.

Its definantly off the ground, the hard yards in the design phase have been put in and investments into components made, from here on its just a matter of bringing it all together.
