Despite the overwhelming (and understandable) vote for Insomnia, the Cafe del Mar hook actually gets to me more.

Er... Insomnia though. Hearing that key change just as the beat dropped in a crowd of thousands of people watching Faithless bosh it out live on stage was like nothing else.
not to talk shit or anything, but isn't the main melody to insomnia, cafe del mar, or synaesthesia a repeated melody that forms the backbone to the rest of the track??

Right about that!
Now to be honest i couldn't choose between Energy52 -Cafe del mar and Faithless' Insomnia. They both have THE top hooks, though with a different feeling each.Synaesthesia for me comes after those 2.

No, because they only play at the peak. For the bulk of Insomnia, the main loop is those sleepy pads. If you look at most rock songs (where "riff" is most commonly associated) the riff is the bit that plays between whenever someone isn't singing (or if it's a one guitar band, when the guitarist goes off on a solo). The riff is the main ingredient of a track, but it isn't the centre-piece.
Not quite, one of my friends can't stand Faithless.
That said, he does like Insomnia

You have got to be fucking kidding me!!! Please, just try and "hum" the hook of Whiteroom... oh, you can't? why? cause there is no friggin hook in Whiteroom. It's just a well producing track, nothing more.
