Eh hem... (Nem clears throat)
Sunny Day
Sweepin' the clouds away
On my way to where the air is sweet
Can you tell me how to get,
How to get to Sesame Street
Come and play
Everything's A-OK
Friendly neighbors there
That's where we meet
Can you tell me how to get
How to get to Sesame Street
It's a magic carpet ride
Every door will open wide
To happy people like you--
Happy people like
What a beautiful
Sunny Day
Sweepin' the clouds away
On my way to where the air is sweet
Can you tell me how to get,
How to get to Sesame Street...
How to get to Sesame Street
How to get to...
Sorry, I wanted to sing too. Not sure why just got the urge to post something that's out there.
No seriously though, while the original thread actually had me amused as I'm sure it was meant to, and I have felt that way many a time too, what actually makes me more amused is that people can bother getting offended by it and take time to answer. The best way to kill a thread is not to post in it.
However, perhaps it's time for someone to actually make a thread for DJ's staring out, as in major thread not just a sticky. Here people can discuss the more basic principals of DJing and people can compare experiences who are on the same level. Naturally it would also be useful if some of the more experienced DJs made some stickies for that particular section.
The problem with the forums is that although we all sit here with a wealth of knowledge we haven't actually compiled it in any way that a new guy can access it easily or even search for it with any particular effectiveness without having to wade through 8 million other threads where people flame eachother over what TT to buy.
I have to be honest now though, I don't come here to learn things although I have to admit that on the odd occassion I still do. For me it's more a social thing (And before anyone asks yes I have RL friends too most of whom are DJs as it happens).
But on the other hand, what would we talk about? I'm sure we would find something.
The thing that happens every once in a blue moon that I really enjoy reading about is when a guy from the forum gets their first gig. It does get a little frustrating when it's some poor guy who gets bombarded with requests for Eminem, 50 cent or the latest Reggaeton (which by the way was called Ragga when I was younger and the guys who 'toasted' did it in patois).
The easiest way of helping a guy who has questions is to either answer in a clear and precis way, specifying if something is personal opinion and give the best information possible or just leave the darn thing alone.
We will probably just scare people off if they get flamed for their first ever post.
It does get boring repeating yourself but you don't have to answer. What I can't understand is why someone wants all these shortcuts as you really learn to Dj by trying stuff out and not being told what to do.
Cheers
Nem
PS
Yes I know I'm an old wind bag!
