If you had the cash to buy 5 synths your best bet would probably have been to use a Nord 3 in combination with a Virus TI. And trying to program them yourself from an init before judging it.

kind regards,

Charlie, as I said in that post - I don't own all of them now, I just listed all the synths I had at one point or another. Right now my collection is rather small... "ONLY" 14 Synths...

I don't just buy for production - for me it's a hobby and sometimes if I see a good deal, I'd buy something - play with it and sell it (most of the time) at profit. Actually, come to think of it - some purchases paid for more than itself when sold. Like a Jupe 8 I bought for $2K and sold for $4K (yes... really). That paid for Prophet VS, Supernova II, and several other synths. So, while I went through many different pieces of gear - there are few that I hold dear to my heart.

Nord lead was a promissing synth and actually 2x is probably the best of the bunch.

To make a judgement about my synth programming skills simply based on your own opinion is rather haste. I spent a considerable amount learning the synths basics on crappy synths before moving into more complex ones. Also, if you know anything about different synths - each has its own personality and sound. But the defining source of synth "timbre" is the sound generation and shaping engine. If that's weak, nothing will help you.

Each synth has a finite raw block of sound that can be further shaped into what you want to hear. Once you reach that limit, you either need to use external methods to change the sound or... pick another synth.

For example, MATRIX 1000 has awesome pads and some of the most magical sounds - but most of them won't be discovered, unless you transpose into lower octaves. This is especially true for brass sounds. Also, regardless of how well you program M1K, you can't force it to have snappy basses or force it to do agressive saw bases - it just can't do it, it's a limitation of the circuitry. You can, however, try to compress it or run it through plug-ins to achieve that with distortion and some other tools - but natively you're SOL.

Hence my assesment of Nord. It's not meant to berate it as a useful instrument or say that it is a bad piece of kit - I'm just exposing the limitations of the synth for the benefit of those who may be looking to plunge their hard earned cash on this rather lavish but underpowered instrument. Just like 303 has it's neiche, I'm sure nord does too. I just didn't like it and it is in no way should be translated as my thoughts about owners of this instrument.

Some will love it and some may agree with me. So, just some info for random absorbtion and sharing.

fair enough?

And that is as it should be, because Death is very likely the single best invention of Life. It is Life’s change agent. It clears out the old to make way for the new. Right now the new is you, but someday not too long from now, you will gradually become the old and be cleared away. Sorry to be so dramatic, but it is quite true.
