A tip: don't.

There is nothing on this world more despicable than musical evangelists.

Is there not a sticky for this yet? Yeesh.

Few of us jumped right into this stuff and started listening to Zabiela or G&D right away. Electronic is a very different forumula than anything you'll hear on the radio so it takes getting used to.

They'll probably need to be worked up to the concept of very little lyrics and the lack of a verse-chorus-verse-chorus structure.

Anyway, its just like you'd approach introducing someone to anything new: slowly and in moderation. It won't happen over night and will happen on their time not yours.

You can ask people here for their opinions but really the only one that matters in this situation is your own. Its your friends so you know them best and you're going to be their gateway into the world of electronica so you're their guide.

They want to know why YOU like it so much so guide them through your experience and YOUR preferences. Once they have enough exposure they'll start to develop their own.

And also remember this is a genre thats not for everyone. So even if they express interest, they very well might end up not liking it.

Hey Antony,

I'd start with some tracks a la:

Robert Miles - Children
ATB
Tilt - The World Doesn't Know
Tiesto - Adagio For Strings
BT - Mercure and Solace
Sash - Mysterious Times / Ecuador

or even some more recent ones like Interstate - I Found You or Above & Beyond - Air For Life, introduced a girl into it and she really loves these 2 lovey tracks.

Estuera Vs. Re:Locate - Palma Salone is also a track that appeals to many
Nu NRG - Connective

If that doesn't work you can try via the more commercial way if they like stuff from our very own country, like Milk Inc, Sylver, Lasgo...even if they have to listen to that for weeks or months first..

Then afterwards I'd guide them through a lot of those trance tracks even though they may sound monotonous to the listener at first, but thats where the guiding comes in..sounds a bit odd I know..but telling them to listen intensely and not think about anything else, and explain to them how the track is building up and how you are absorbing energy which then leads to a powerful climax in many cases...making them close their eyes when listening to certain tracks may also be a good idea so that they concentrate on the hearing sense more intensely and don't distract themself. I personally also think many people are kinda scared to wanting to listen to trance as a lot of it is quite melancholic and not very cool-sounding as they're used to seeing the cool rnb 'gangsta's on tv shouting about how troubled their youth was. Whereas trance can be very loved-up and very emotional and sentimental.

@Sykonee: *lol* I'm sure many would like it in that case but trance has to be your drug (if you take mdma, that can be the maximiser...but lets not get into that).

If you want someone to listen to music you like, you play them some. If they don't like it, then they don't like it. If you think there's a possibility that they will like the right stuff, find tracks which suit their tastes as well as yours.

However, nobody on here knows your friends, or you, so you have to use your own fucking INITIATIVE on this.

A billion threads, a billion fools, all wanting complete strangers to do their socialising for them. Welcome to TranceAddict.

Take it easy my friend its not about that, its nice to be United in Trance, specially if you're in a tranzy state of mine with your best friends, its more than just music to many of us I'm sure, and by posting a thread like this there may be some ideas pointed out the thread-poster hadn't thought about yet.

All of my friends know I'm insane when it comes to trance, and that I listen to it all the time, so they don't mind if I play it around them. A few of them asked a while back for some examples to try out, but not all of my friends that enjoy it now asked for examples. Whenever I'm in my car, I always listen to it, and when my friends weren't so into it, I'd turn it down for them out of courtesy, but it'd drive me nuts not to play music while driving, so I always had it so I could at least hear it a bit. It seems like over the course of 3 years or so quite a few of them started to enjoy it to the point where they'd actually tell me to turn it up and they would start to play it on their own time too... so I guess in a way that worked if you want them to start listening to it more: instead of really forcing it down their throat, just play it in that situation and eventually they'll at least get used to it, if not really like it.

Okay, you remember that scene in Superman when Miss Tessmacher tells Lex Luther her mother lives in Hackensack, NJ and he just looks at his watch, then at her, and shakes his head solemly?

Now, pretend you are Miss Tessmacher, and I'm Lex, and you just said this to me now. Instead of looking at my watch, I look at Madonna and Crazy Frog and ASOT.

*shakes head*

(holy shit, that was a pretty long reach for a convoluted analogy)

I don't think you can really do much more than just play people some good trance tunes, if their willing to listen, and see if they like it. None of my friends listen to trance and, to be honest, I've never met anyone outside of the internet who likes trance, which sucks because it's basically all i listen to. oh well, The way i see it, it's their loss.

One of my former co-workers was in a small rock band. They made a CD, played a few gigs in some clubs, but didn't make it big. One day I was playing a local DJs promo CD at work, and he was instantly hooked.

The strange thing is, a few months later, his drummer also got into trance. He picked up a Dave Seaman CD and got hooked too.

Just put out the bait, and the fish will bite.
