I practice everything (one ear left/right and just in headphones) i mostly prefere just in the headphones but thats probably because my speakers currently are not at ear level. My left and right ear are the same for me, cant tell the dif.

that only works if ur mixer has the split cue function...alot of mixers may not hav that
