I LOVE livesets! It's amazing to picture what is going through the DJ's mind, because you know that less than have of what they're spinning was planned ahead of time.

Also, imagining being there and experience what the DJ is doing as far as programming and reading the crowd, hearing them drop tracks that are on their latest release as well as what's hot right now, then an old classic dropped in for good measure.

I don't really listen to trance anymore, but one set that was really epic as far as prgoramming is Tiesto's Space Miami 18Aug02. The Yahel track he dropped at the beginning was crazy, Solarcoaster killed me, and Voila was perfect timing. Buster, however, needs to shut the fucking fuck up for the next 643 years though.

At home i don't listen livesets much at all really, except for what friends send me.. have more than enough of not yet listened CDs and vinyls to check out already without even thinking of livesets. In a club environment it's a whole another story. That is how i prefer my livesets, live in a club/event when and where you can feel the atmosphere and be part of the reacting crowd. The only way livesets truly work for me.

I don't actually listen that much of mix CDs either, for the most part anyway because they all just use the same tunes just differently arranged and pitched to create an appropriate mood for the cd. Nowadays only the very best mix CDs find their way on my shelves and that number isn't too big.

As for the whole concept of the liveset.. shit put me in a club, we are gold. But listening to livesets is like watching re runs of a sports game.. why?

If they happen to be on a radio station I have tuned onto, perhaps. But I don't feel compelled to seek them out unless for some specific reason (research, or something). I'd much rather be at a show.

I guess those who seek out livesets are like those rock folks who get bootlegs of live concerts. It's a chance to hear their favorites in action and sometimes you even get to hear unique variations if the performer is has a good groove on, something that just can't be captured in a studio since spontenaity isn't something easily done with multiple takes.

All that said, I do have a few official live recordings of some groups I like, since they have a nice studio-produced sheen on them to clear up any of the ugly extra noise you get from bootlegs/mp3s.

I'm a big fan of livesets. However I haven't been listening to too many lately; there's simply none that really interest me. I also find that not listening to too many livests influences my sets, in that I feel the need to go out and find my own tunes.

I just listened to a liveset of Talla 2XLC and i know if i did not listened to this set i missed out a great peasure for the ears.
The point is that a live set is not just a few records but a part of a journey.
And i like to travel ALOT
