I've only got the choral version sung by New College, Oxford. (excuse the poor ripping quality - (frequent clicking)

But you get the idea. It's the same as the original. If you subistutue the voices for strings, that's how the original sounds like, except maybe a few keys higher.
William Orbit's version is another version that's pretty much the same as the original. Just synthesised strings instead of real strings.
Personally, I really don't think the original strings version touches the choral arrangement. The clashes resoloving onto suspensions and then cadences just make it sounds incredible. Speaking as a violinst, for this type of piece, I don't believe that you can get the same passion out of a violin that you can a voice.
If you're looking for other choral works like this, full of emotion, I can name plenty!
