So?

You posted the article making it sound like the government has already initiated this ban.

Really, it's just the lobbyists doing exactly what they have always done.

I swear, reading an article you post is such a let down sometimes...I think it's going to be super controversial and meanwhile, it's just you saying "omgomgsomeoneisdoingsomethingidontlikeomg"

Yes you can.
You can't stop LOBBYING, no. Lobbying is not LAW ENFORCEMENT though.

You are equating lobbyists with government here.

They are doing it in other provinces in canada and the lobbyists are active here. And given our governments nonchalent attitudes about people's rights in Ontario, its only a matter of time.

Would you rather not know about and discuss it BEFORE it becomes a bill on the house floor? By that times its already almost too late.

See...there's where your assumption is faulty. You've posted this article like it's already happened. I HAAAATE how you do that.

It's no wonder people get defensive in your threads. It's not a discussion, it's you saying "look how we've been wronged by our country" when nothing has actually happened! In fact, NOWHERE in your article does it mention anything about our government.

an MP writing a letter = LIEBERALS BANNING 50 CENT!!!!!
Anti-Smoking Lobbyists targetting patios = OUTDOOR SMOKING BAN!!!!

is it a stretch to say that you are jumping to conclusions? Do I accuse Conservatives of being Nazis because they challenge gay marriage?

And once again... thank god for the indoor smoking ban, especially at clubs and bars. I dont have to peel layers of nicotine off my skin in the morning.

Why should somebody have to choose between staying home, and inhaling shitty second hand smoke.

If smoking was still allowed in the workplace, should I have to choose between being unemployed and inhaling your cancer stick?

God... this topic is so beaten to death on TA.

....going back to my Political Science paper....

that's simply false.

gov't and the courts can stop it...they can stop giving in to the lobbyists who take their "cause" too far.

if they don't, then the fault lies with the gov't and the courts, not with people who want reasonable limits and that's it (like me).

So its up to reasonable people to stop the courts and the government by either protesting or voting against them.

ANd yes just the mere suggestion of banning 50 cent or stupid smoking laws by those who would shape our laws causes me to be alarmed. The fact that those ideas are being taken seriously is the first step toward making it a reality. If we get the message out to enough people early enough maybe it can be nipped in the bud.

I assume the immigration minister decided not to step in because everyone was laughing at them and probably would have gotten mad had they actually gone ahead and banned him. The same needs to happen with other non-rock star causes as well.

It's the lobbyists and radicals that cause change....some mother sitting at home watching Oprah one say saw an add that said her son could die from touching a cigarette and since she has nothing to do but sit on her big couch ass she decided to start lobbying against smoking....well she talks to her weekly Fat Ass Ladies of Oprah Club members about this and they all decide to join in and the next thing you know the government is sitting there with 1000s of Oprah Loving Lard Asses screaming at them to ban smoking.....well shit....I would give in too.

Just to play devil's advocate here. Why should it be about you....why should the owner of the club take a chance at loosing money because smokers will not go to his bar?

The owners of private businesses (especially business that only allow those 19+ in) should be allowed to decide if they want smoking, no smoking, or smoking in designated areas.

I am a smoker and I am happy to go outside to have a smoke at a club simply because it gives me a chance to relax and it is easier to breathe in the club.

They should not be permitted to suggest such things, even if they are extreme?
