And btw, the DJ booth in Turnmills has got an open front... so it's not soundproof, unless they've got some covers for it (although I'd be suprised if a removable cover would be easily soundproofable and the door's a bit flimsy so I can't picture that stopping much sound lol

Not sure where you heard that, but I'm afraid I don't think it is soundproofed.

Yeah the point isn't really about not using monitors or split cue, it's about not being able to hear both tracks at the same time while you're trying to beatmatch them!

well i have to say this is great!

i think this is a turning point in the life of the "dj booth" forum... it is a really refreshing turn for the better.

don't get me wrong, its not like this board was at all lame, its just that this is now taking this forum to a new level

its not TOTALLY soundproof, but Freak is right. when u turn down the monitors in there, there's seriously almost NO sound from the club system that comes in. but then if u are popular enough, of course u have all the crowd people in that little window yelling in your face though. :P

what it is though i think, the dj booth there is built like a tank (and as small as one too). all ambient sound from the dancefloor is not directed at the booth and therefore almost no reflections come into the booth itself. that window to the crowd is quite small, and is covered up by the monitors anyway. (to clarify, i've never played there but i've stood in the booth during an armin set)

anyway, seems like this dj challenge was a good idea! i'll have to give it a shot once i re-buy some decks and monitors.

I'm not trying to argue, ive just never been at a club with no sound. Ive spun at clubs with no montiros, but there was still sound... from the main speakers.. Im really not trying to argue..

It's a good club but I don't like the set up with the booth. Feels almost like you are the kid that's too ill to go out and play with the others so you stay and and DJ.

They have a poxy little window on the booth so you don't get that contact with the crowd like you do in a lot of other clubs. All the DJs I know agree with me that it's not as fun to play there as it is other places.
