Ask me anything folks as the political gloves are off now between us and Surface. I hate situations like this as we have tried to remain cool about certain things but when someone crosses the line like this and openly says they are trying to take our artist from us, that negates us being nice anymore. If you guys were still throwing shows at the Mark you would probably be bankrupt by now with all the tumbleweeds that were rolling through ninety percent of your shows there. Enjoy Fever. |
No one is trying to take anyone away from anybody, so instead of drawing conclusions about what you think you might know then why dont you just talk to one of us about it instead of posting this on a public forum. I love how some people see things one way and just assume they know everything.
Corey your remarks are uncalled for and you have known me long enough that I would like to think that if you really felt the way you do you would have at least contacted me instead of posting this on the board. But since you did let me just say that...
(1st and foremost)I am a DJ/Producer who happens to promote events, thats all!!
To have to put up with the shit that I do from people who assume they have it "all" figured out is beyond me. Apparently, some of you dont know who I am as a person and why I started Surface in the first place only to slave my fucking life for the past year and a half bringing good shows to Atlanta only to hear this from people that I respect. To put up with the shit that I have is not what I signed up for and to be honest isnt worth the frustration...
I came into this to give something back to the town that supported me while I was establishing myself. Some of you talk about the politics, but thats not me in the least and unfortunatly its something that is relavant to this business. I dont think that any of you realize that this music saved my life which is why all of this means so much to me. I lived on the streets for 2 years and it was only by the grace of God that a special person who was in this scene in LA brought me into their home and helped me better my life. Its a THANK YOU everyone! Surface was set up as a way for me to personally contribute something positive to this scene.
So if thats not the way you see it, then Surface isnt what it was originally designed to be and maybe its time to step back. I miss working on music and with all this hostility and misconception its just not worth it. My only goal was to be able to touch someone with an event or an artist that people would take with them for a lifetime. Just like I got when I fell in love with the music back in 97'
Corey, you talked about tumbleweeds at the Mark but I didnt see it that way. We were the only promoters there with a bi-weekly event and we had alot of successful shows out of the 30+ that we had there. If I was in it for the money I would have been gone a long time ago. So for me, even if there was one person who captured something then it was a partial success. Maybe, I should have not had so many shows like you and focused on the bigger ones, but I cant change the past, only the future.
For now I am only looking at whats ahead so many thanks to all of you who have supported us. I hope that through these events you have carried something positive away from them. We are not going away, in fact everything has changed for the better. Corey was right that in 06' your going to see promoters collaborating. We are starting now and as long as you want Surface around, I will be here to make this happen. For those of you who really know me on here, know that my intentions have always been for Surface to only be a postive force in this town. If any of you see this any other way, I am sorry.
Best regards,
