it just doesnt work that way, if people want information, they more often than not, ASK, for the specific information..

OK now that's oversimplifying. Students might be babied like that in high school, but when I was in university and the profs assigned reading to be done, if students who obviously hadn't done the reading came in to the lecture the next day and started asking inane questions, the profs would *never* waste class time with hand-holding. The polite ones would say "come see me during my office hours" and the less-polite ones would, in fact, tell them to read the book/notes.
But that's irrelevant anyway since this is not a classroom. We are not teachers and new members are not students - we are all peers helping each other out of the goodness of our hearts, we are not getting paid or compensated in any way for this, and if we want to reply with smart-ass remarks then that is our privilege.
Of course, my reply was more along the lines of mean as opposed to smart-assed, and that's why I apologized.
