I like Kanye's stuff. I don't know much about hip hop after 2000.. I actually stopped listening to hip hop around 1998 when I started getting strictly into EDM. Up until then I used to spin hip hop.
Like Common said... "I used to love her"... but around 98 or so... MASE was at his peak..and ruined it all for me. Ever since then hip hop has blown up and for me personally has turned into utter shite! Since I don't listen to hip hop much..or know much about it anymore... I find his stuff dif. and refreshing from the other , i guess, commercial stuff that's out there getting play.
From his style to his lyrics, i'd choose him anyday over all that southern bullshit that ruined hip hop as well..with all that uuuuuuuuuuugggggggghh,, nanananana... heyheyheyhey...
in hurrr... all that shit.
But yeah...he ain't no Common...Soul by the Pound...When he frist came out

Can I Borrow A Dollar for the most part was a shite album, and his style was whack. He knew that though, hence the title of his next album, Resurrection.

I'd say it goes something like this:
Hip Hop > Eric > Masturbating > Farting > Nose picking > Taking a dump > Everything Else

kanye is, along with the neptunes, the best producer working in hip hop right now. as a rapper, he's strictly palooka, but when his contemporaries are of the grunting barbarian variety in the south and southwest, he seems rakimesque by comparisson.
as far as his messages and politics are concerned you can't fault a guy for maturing. i think it's admirable that as he's pushing 30 he's more interested in social justice than bling; it's more than you can say for the lil' jons and jermaine dupris of the game.
oh, and common is a hypocrite who long ago substituted bullshit proclamations for quality music (soul by the pound seems like a lifetime ago...)
The only good thing that has come out of Kanyes head is the track Golddigger which has a nice touch of soul too it. Nice beats and nice singing by Jamie Foxx who lifts this song way up!
