If you're buying that LCD, go for the newer 7500 nVidia series of video cards.

Why Intel? AMD's offerings seem to outperform all the equivalent Intel stuff in nearly everything, and for a bit less money with absolutely no loss in quality or reliability.

I've been an AMD whore for years...my last 4 systems have been AMD chip based.

I haven't kept up on the tech though...any words on their laptop chips? I'm thinking laptop instead of new desktop, for a couple of reasons...I know Acer is putting AMD chips in their notebooks, but are any others?

Asus K8V SE Deluxe mobo

some old Pioneer slot-loading DVD drive I had (moved CD burner to other comp, cause iPods don't need CDs).

Wow... I also bought mine back in September 2004... almost this EXACT same system (except with a Radeon 9800). But mine cost me around $600 thanks to a SWEET Future Shop promo with AMD!

God bless my gf's staff discounts

160GB Maxtor ATA133
Lite-ON DVD+RW

Everything, including tax, is around $1200 after tax. The monitor is gonna end up costing around that much as well.

Aside from looks, the Silverstone Case would be kinda limiting. What's the cost on the 6800GS? If you were building it with the intent to play games, seems kinda a shame not to do the SLI thing. Just my 2 cents. Although I guess it doesn't really matter since he bought the Dell.

One thing that does piss me of about LCD monitors is the apparent lack of options for high end, high resolution monitors. I did find a 9 megapixel 30 inch LCD, don't even ask the price. Aside from that there's a few out there that will do 2560x1536 or something like that but the price is pretty astronomical. Still haven't gotten rid of my 19" CRTS which I do the whole dual monitor setup with and get an overall 3200x1200 resolution with for what cost me then about 700 bucks. It really irks me that laptops that measure 15" and 17" can have highly dense pixel counts, but no one is offering that for the people that prefer to run at higher resolutions on a desktop model. Ah, enough venting...
