Re: on a break?

no, not from partying...I want to party now more than ever
So my bf and I have been together for over 3 years, and living together for over 2 years. And, well, he's quite a bit older than me so the question of our future (ie. marriage) came up. To be sure we are right for each other we decided to go on a temporary 'break'.
has anyone else gone through something like this? |
Needing a "break" is an excuse people use when they feel like the other person - or just the relationship in general - is getting too serious. The buzz I've got from married couples - and I'd tend to agree - is that if you're with the "right" person then you will know that very quickly (certainly by 3 years into it) and won't have to second-guess yourself. To me, this situation is indicative of a fear of commitment, or perhaps just a reluctance. And if you're living together, it could also get really awkward.
I'm not claiming this to be hard science nor am I saying that it definitely applies to you and Eric, but I sometimes got that speech from girls in my naïve days and it pretty much always turned out the same way (splitsville). I hope for the best for you guys, sorry if that wasn't what you wanted to hear!
