Anything by Ferry Corsten. That guy needs to learn the meaning of subtlety, because he has none currently.

I'd agree with Ligaya.
And quite a few Airbase productions.

yeah, i wouldn't call their stuff try-hard at all, it does what it does effortlessly, cutting out the bullshit and going straight in for the kill, seldom trying to be anything it isn't

overblown and formulaic it may be... but not pretentious. which is why they deserve respect, imo

Rank 1 - Opus 17

This song simply tries too hard to the point where it sounds forced, which is why it is horrible to listen to.

"Serenity" by Armin van Buuren or "Shivers" as well. "Serenity" tries too hard to be "techy", "hard" and "epic" at the same time, instead it just sounds like a rip off of Tiesto's reinterpretation of "Adagio For Strings", even the bass line is similar. Good to have experimentation but "Serenity" sounded pretty lame in my opinion, tried too hard. Shivers also was a big disapointment, completely overblown and the vocals are pretty annoying IMO, I actually prefered Justine's vocals in Burned With Desire (Rising Star Mix) vs. this one, and that mix was really good at the time.

Agreed whole heartedly on the A&B Satellite mix. I'm hardly in a rush to listen to any more of their works since I've heard they do the exact same thing in every track.

Another one for the books:

Solid Globe - Sahara

Maybe not pompous, but certainly a try-hard.
