No government will be perfect .. at this point, I'd rather have one that makes a few mistakes but still fights for my values. Even if the conservatives made no mistakes and had no corruption, it's their very ideology that I'm against, and for me, having a right-wing style government is the biggest mistake of all! Liberals have made mistakes and made some things go in the wrong direction by mistake ... but conservatives will work deliberately in what I see is the wrong direction (based on my values for supporting Medicare, education, the environment, etc etc).

Anyhow I'm not telling you to not vote for the conservatives ... just please be sure you understand what they stand for before you do! Because if you really can't bring yourself to vote for the Liberals because of their mistakes, yet still want to see strong funding to Medicare, education and everything else, then you'd definately be better of voting for NDP! Although I still personally believe the Liberals offer the best balance!

I do know who i am voting for. A party who will cut my taxes. A party who will be less intrusive in my life. A party who will clean up the mess. A party who has been largely portrayed as the bogeyman by the opposition who until recently supported mostly the same social issues. The only difference is that one is honest about it and one isnt. A party who will respect the law of the land even if some of their views differ personally from them (just like the liberals personally view things differently from the laws they have made)

The reality is, that about 2/3rd of Canadians will be voting for left parties on Monday .. while only about 35% will vote for a right-wing conservative ideology. I simply feel that the left needs to unite in order to make sure 35% of Canadians don't dictate what the other 65% truly want.

To make things worse .. many people are voting conservative simply to remove the liberals .. I see an inherant problem with having a right-of-center majority government when only maybe 20% of Canadians want one (when you remove the people who are voting conservative simply to not vote Liberal).

I see the left vs right debate as being infinately more important than a Liberal vs Conservative debate. I'm simply very heavcily in favour of a socialized approach where Canadians help each other with strong institutions like socialised medicine (Medicare) and subsidised education and the plethora of other things prioritized by a left-of-center ideology and way of doing things.

Although I would be very disapointed by a conservative majority, it wouldn't bother me as much if 50%+1 of Canadians voted for the conservatives fully aware of what a right-wing ideology represents ... but that definately is not the case for this election!

Id argue that most people voting liberal dont know what they are voting for. Its astonashing how many people dont know about adscam, or many of the other scams and scandals. Its amazing how many people think harper wants to open a debate about abortion when he clearly says he doesnt. People who are left wing thinking and have any awareness are voting NDP. And thats fine. People who are aware and right wing are voting Conservative. Most of the people voting liberal i have spoken to are shocked when i tell them what the word "gomery" actually means.

A truely sad reality. The way I see it the left in Canada needs a rebirth just as the Conservatives did a while back uniting their respective factions and solidifing their "policies". I truely belive that the majority of Canadian citizens foster more social minded political views. Unfortunetly for most we do not feel either confident or secure enough in the current left to gain enough support to form a government. As a result we are going to be faced with a goverment that represents the views of a small minority of people in this country.

Ya its too bad and pretty sad...Oh well history will probably change in 12 hours so lets see what Jayx1 and his crew will complain about now! At least I will be extremely relieved that i dont have to read about Paul Martin on every thread that I click on. Sometimes it seems that the cons hired a couple of people to bitch on every message board LOL.

Gee if someone has not heard of ADSCAM or the "Gomery' report they have seriously been living under a rock for the last year. Or maybe they just haven't been reading TA in the last 6 months.

We raced to be one of the first nations to legalize Gay Marriage.

Canadians vote in the Conservatives AFTER we've evolved socially. It's standard practice and nothing to be alarmed by (Canada doesn't roll backwards)

As for the NDP they are pretty much obsolete. Ontario had Gay Marriage on the books 2 years ago, and Ontario gave us the big tax hike for hospitals... because being socially progressive are now traits inherent to all canadians. So there is no longer a need for a party dedicated to this. That's why the Green Party has been on the Rise.

Likewise the Conservatives are obsolete because they are the least socially progressive. People vote for them for the same reason they might vote for the Bloc... to say "We don't live in Ontario, how can we have a voice that will be heard in the national dialogue?"

So were left with the Liberals... when you are a default choice it makes it that much easier to be corrupt. The only viable long term opponent to the Liberals is another party whose policies are similar.

Canadian political opinion is no longer wide. It's kinda narrow. Our 3 parties are anchored to a political landscape that was wide. The two parties on the outside have to take the plunge and uproot themselves if they want to be relevant.

p.s. I'm too busy elsewhere to have written any of this. So I blame it all on Eital Veinberg via her friend Ran

p.p.s. And stop being bitter about Ontario/Toronto being important in Canada. All nations Collective Consciousness's actively pool resources in a city designated to represent them on the international stage.

p.p.p.s. As for the "Sponsor Ship" Scandal. If you understand culture. Then you will realize that the greatest gift the federal government can give the province of Quebec is fuel for seperatism.

Save Canada? From what? I have news for you people, a Conservative government will not destroy this country. No government can destroy this country. We are a people united by values and ideas and a shared character that goes far beyond the influance of the government of the day. If we are the people that we claim we are then we will remain the country that we believe we are and the people we want to be regardless of the government of the day and the relatively minor differences between how the various parties and our diverse regions believe we can best maintain our beloved country. If we cannot continue to be the people we want to be because of a brief change in the governing party then I'm afraid we never really were and Canada is already lost.
