We've all done stupid things when we first got our licence, or been in cars with people who have. Young people do stupid stuff, its part of growing up. They make stupid decisions sometimes, not always thinking of what could happen, they just do it. So many just want to fly around in there cars.

The best thing to do, open up more places where they can actually race, like drag strips, that sorta thing. Then they can actually race and its legal, they get accurate times too, and its way more fun! I just went last summer with a few friends, and it was hilarious and fun haha.

The first people we need to blame are the parents. They need to be held responsible for their children's behaviour. I will bet you anything that parents knew about their kids' drag-racing on the streets (come on, what kind of Dad wouldn't know that about his son), and still them them use the Benz.. WTF? Bad parenting!

Second, blame the kids themselves. Yes, at 18 we were all still idiots (pretty much).. But not idiots enough to be doing 140 on the street with 60 limit. If nothing else, you get caught by police doing this, that's an automatic license suspension + court date. Especially around the area as nice as Mt. Pleasant. Thus both kids deserve some jail time.

That's about it. Games, shmames.. Boys will be boys. We'll have our cars, girls, gyms, etc.. Life has been this way forever, it will be this way forever.

+1!

Video racing games have been around for years.
The fact that the Toronto Star's reports gives a one liner about the video game in the car is a social misnomer.
They should pay for their actions and accept the responsibility of real life.
What kind of example would be set otherwise??

I dont know if the video game was to blame or not. But what happened was so, so sad. The cabbie was going to become a Canadian Citizen the next day and boom! He dies! Wow what Irony, he came to Canada for a better life and the day before he was about to, he dies.

What kinda trips me out about this story is- Yea these 2 kids were racing/driving around 140 km/h, right... but didn't the cabbie see these cars gunning down the street when he was turning? Like how can u not notice 2 cars speeding ur way before turning onto that street?

Your thoughts..

Mt Pleasant is a little bit hilly and windy where they hit .. not too likely that he could see much.

No.
I live about 200-300 feet from there and take it just about everyday; it's definately a horrible intersection, but nothing you can do.
When coming from that direction (downhill, south-bound on Mt.Pleasant) you really have to be careful because of the hill and corner; it obstructs the view of oncoming cars.
That poor cabbie never had a chance because of the speed the kids were doing.
Hell I gun it to do that turn when people are doing the speed limit! I can't image the cabbie could have done anything but brace himself...
