Carte Blanche = Car-Tay Blonsh (try saying it out loud like a french person, u'll know what i mean).

Carte is really spelled Carté with the "é" so the e's not silent.

my french is rusty, but I believe "carte blance" is translated as white card or white map... one of the two....

I've heard that thing about pronouncing PVD as Paul Van Dook before.. but when PVD did a live essential mix in april of 2000, Pete Tong (whom I consider an authority in these matters) clearly pronounces it "Paul Van Dike"

how do u explain the word.
"a la carte" when u go to resturants

it is clearly pronounced as "A LA CART"
therefore explains the "carte" as CART.

As I said already, you shouldn't translate carte (not carté) blanche literally (well you could but you wouldn't grasp the meaning of it). Read my previous post.

CArte Blanche does mean "white card"

Someone said it means u can do whatever u want, and thats quite close. I asked my french teacher what it meant and it means "freedom" in some sort of way, its just how u interpret it. Shetold me something about carte blanche having something to do with backstage passes as well??!

French ? or what ??

Carte Blanche is pronouced "cart blonsh". The term "avoir carte blanche" means to have a free hand to do whatever you want... However, in this context, I believe it means 'white label'... as in a promo record which is has no markings on either side (this is according to one of my French friends who is a DJ).

The pronunciation sounds about right, but the other bit about 'carte' being spelled 'carté' is wrong. Unless this comes from a slang verb I don't know about, the word 'carté' doesn't exist! The only word I know that would sound like 'carté' is the word 'un carter' which can mean a few different things depending on context... none of which apply here.

Hope I've managed to clear that up for you!

lateRZ,

barryfigiel.
