I think the controversy is not so much of the action of Cheney shooting the guy, but how the White House handled this mess AFTERWARDS. I mean they sat on the fucking story for over 24 hours, wondering not about the truth of it all, but how they were going to fucking HANDLE THE PR VALUE OF IT!!!!!: |
Smoking a little David Gregory rage? Admittedly, this has got to be the last thing the administration needs. Seriuosly, I can understand having to question every single twitch these guys make, but is it really that big a deal to you, knowing the circumstances and outcome of this really...comical, ironic, tragic--but mostly funny event? I mean he just gave you Dems a solid 24 hour period with which to concoct a sweet, conspiratorial story to run. If they don't, the bloggers surely will.
| quote: | | Now I realize it was a mistake, and I realize the jokes are running wild on Cheney's expense, but is it really in the place of this Administration to make light of the situation of a man being shot, especially when he just suffered a heart attack as a consequence?: |
I agree. But who is making light of it? I just read The Smoking Gun Report. I gotta think the look on Cheney's face when he realized what he did was priceless. He probably crapped his pants on the spot. The hospital/police report of the shot area was seriously shoulder/neck/cheek. I mean, Cheney was going for the kill! 30 yards away in the brush ain't an easy shot! Cheney is probably lucky as hell he was using a 28-guage. The report really makes it read like an honest hunting accident. Fucking hilariously unfortunate.
Anyway, are you pissed because they waited 24 hours or because they "made light of" the situation, or because you didn't get to hear about it on Saturday night? I'm sure they were at the hospital with the guy all night, filling out forms, answering questions, and or course trying to figure out what the hell to tell Dubie. Would you have preferred Cheney called a news conference on the spot, address the nation prime time saying, "Hi. Dick here. I just shot a guy, but it was an accident" Oh man, that would've been priceless. But seriously--given that Cheney wasn't hurt and it seems to be a real accident, is it that much of a big deal? Does Gregory not have a satisfactory answer?

Seriously--where did you find this? I can't believe someone has already field tested this! That guy could've been firing a bazooka for all you know!

Yeah, if Cheney had hit the guy where he was aiming! I'd guess about 150 or so of those BBs just missed being a fatality. Cheney seriously had to have shit his pants on the scene.

| quote: | | Now they do expect a full recovery, but I don't think it's really a laughing matter UNTIL we see some marked improvement in this man's condition. |
Well, yeah. Though if this was an honest accident and the guy is expected to make a full recovery, and it was truly an accident between friends and they've shaken hands and gotten past it, well then, I dunno--I mean, if it were me and my friends, I know some would find humor in it, once given assurance that I would be OK. But seriously--who is joking about it and how? Talk about embarassing.
| quote: | | Now Cheney didn't get a $7 "upland game bird stamp" thingy, to which I believe he turned around a got one. |
Seriously! Man, you can't write this shit any better! So many misunderstandings! He paid all this money for a license, but didn't get the bonus stamp that let him shoot after quail, which apparently was a new law that recently went into effect, which is why he was able to get off with a warning and paying for it after-the-fact (Well, that and being the VP).

Was he asked?
| quote: | | Now I really don't want to make too much outa this whole incident, but it does seem to fit this Administration to a fucking "T". This incident really is Bush-Fuckup 101. It's so good to see them out of the gate, but then they seemingly find a way to come around and bungle the shit out of things in the end. |
It's really quite funny sometimes. They have it down to a science. This happened on a clear and sunny day!
Leave it to SNL to show it the way you really wanted to see it!
I have a few theories as to how the whole thing went down, but it's V-day and my dinner awaits.
