I like Monte Cristo cigarillos, but I prefer Romeo & Julieta for cigars

I've also tried an Avo Intermezzo. The guy at the shop said they were made by Davidoff (fucking amazing cigars). Anyway.. it was a nice, medium bodied smoke.. Could taste hints of cream and everything. If you ever see 'em pick one up.. won't be disappointed.

I only recently paid attention to the fact I live next to cigar land...Switzerland

Avo, Davidoff and the likes are available absolutely everywhere and it's all super cheap

Any of you guys have humidors ? I bought one because I buy a lot of cigars at the same time when I go back home and need to store them while I'm in Vancouver.

no, i usually buy tubos and don't open them until i smoke them, so they stay pretty fresh. i'm probably going to get a humidor for my birthday in may, though.

It's a good investment. I got mine on special too, I paid like 50 bucks. The cigar cutter that comes with it alone is like $30! It was an awesome deal.

If you're just getting into cigars I wouldn't recommend monte cristo or romeo & juliets, they tend to be much stronger and heavier than I'd prefer and can be a shock to a cigar newb

My personal favorite brand in general is Davidoff, specifically the #2 tubos. About $20/each so its moderately pricey but its as good as the most expensive on the shelf. Very light and fluffy smoke, not noxious and overpowering, tastes great.

Zino Platinums are also really tasty, about $80-$100 a pop though

Yeah, stay away from those Graycliff Black Label Espressos, too.

Anyways, the best way to start is just to A: do some research online to find what's just generally considered to be better, then B: find a good cigar shop (not a liquor store that cells cigars, or your run-of-the-mill tobacconist) and just ask for some help. They'll probably ask you what sort of tastes you like, what you like to drink, that sort of thing, how much you're willing to spend, and then probably make a couple recommendations. Usually, you can tell just by the smell if something is really noxious, but other than that, just get a couple very different ones and go from there. Let them know which you liked more, didn't like, etc., and keep trying ones 'til you find some you really enjoy (and can afford...to some extent).
