so its better than what it sounds. ill check that video later.

having a mixer harmonic match 2 songs is just amazing!! for the creator of the machine.

but its really dumb to make something like that and sell cause whats the point of dj skill in the end? having all this experience and end up having a kid playing by me harmonically just cause he got a nice mixer.

Hmmm,

Actually when I think about this, the ability to change the key of a track makes it sound very interesting.

Someone who knows how to use the colour effect could in theory make some very interesting transitions. Two tracks in the same key and same BPM could be turned into a key lift mix and so on.

On the down side, I have always found that this type of effect always has a really bad effect on the kick and low end frequencies so it would be intersting to see how it handles that.

Cheers

But it doesn't actually change the key of the track, just pushes it in to a perfect version of they key is is already closest to. So if a track was in A and you pushed it slightly off to beatmatch it, the mixer would have the ability to put it back in to a perfect A again. Or that's how I understood it from the description anyway. I'll watch the video later when i get home.

Also remember that if you use master tempo on your CDJ's this isn't really necessary...

Maybe I misunderstood but I thought that this was something that you manipulated by hand.

If that's all it is then it's a bit pointless if you ask me.

my understanding is that it does put it in perfect key (you have to know what that is) and then you have the ability to increment in perfect semi-tones (without changing tempo) by the markers on the color dial.

i think of it as a reverse master-tempo control.

I've never tried this mixer or even seen it/heard it in action - i'm reading around to find out what it does, so do correct me if I'm wrong here. Are you saying that it has the ability to tweak it in to a perfect tone, and you can then assign what key you want the track to be in?

Yeah that's what I was thinking! But you said that this:
quote:
when u change the pitch ur gonna have the key of the track somewhere in "no man's land" less than a semi-tone either way of the true key. because of this, true harmonic mixing is made impossible. all the mixer is doing is adjusting it to that semitone

I took that as meaning that the mixer adjusts to the nearest semitone. The website seems to suggest the same, so where am I wrong?

OK i got it now cheers! I see how it works. The descriptions of the colour knob aren't very good on the websites I read, which just went on about performing a 'perfect harmonic mix' when the tracks have been pushed out of key (so what lol). But it's quite obvious now what this would be used for. Doesn't show exactly how far up/down it can go, but I would guess quite a reasonable distance.

I'd love to have a shot on this - I have a problem when I'm trying to beatmatch of intuitively trying to push the tracks in to key instead of lining up the beats becuase of my musical background, so this would be a cool thing to play around with.
