What you're saying is: because you don't like (or someone else doesn't like, or even the greater music consuming market doesn't like) an album - the people who worked on the album should have their work (and livelihood) stolen or that it is acceptable to have their work (and livelihood) stolen.
If someone deems an end product to be lacking "quality" or without "passion", the creator should forgo compensation and that the end product should be stolen?
Using your logic, people should steal cell phones and cell service from Bell (reducing your income) because they don't like Bell or because Bell executives "aren't passionate" about cell phone service.
Or how about stealing a painting because "the artist only made it for money! the painter wasn't really passionate about the oil or the canvas or the scene!" Come on! |
no, that is not what i'm saying, and i'm not attempting to justify stealing...because the kind of stuff i'm complaining about right now I would not even waste my time downloading. the argument in which i brought up in response to your quote was me expressing my displeasure with how ass backwards the music industry is these days...
you brought up an example of my work...if i don't go out there and be passionate trying to set companies up with all the new software bell is coming out with i do no get paid....if i half-ast my job and don't put alot of effort into it, my financial rewards are significantly reduced....
in music today, the majority of the artists out there (at least 70%) put together simplistic, low quality, and easy to make songs...and get paid of shitload of money to do this....rediculous amounts...
what about all the little guys out there who devote their entire lives to the study of music...the stuff they are putting together is so complex, well written, and well produced....but when it comes time to collect their pay cheque they struggle to survive? all while sum 41 one is writing songs with simplistic 4 chord progressions that can be improvised in a matter of seconds?
my argument is that people who put their time in and really push to expand the boundries of music should reap the financial rewards of doing so...and they don't....these are the people i support, and these are the people that i will always continue to support...i have spent thousands of dollars on these ppl through cd's and concerts....
if you would like examples of artists like this, please feel free to ask, i will also show you my purchased cds from them as well as my concert ticket stubs...
all this aside, i completely understand where you are coming from with your arguments because you see first hand the sweat and tears your brother puts into his work...and i hope to god his financial rewards for it are high....your brother deserves every penny he makes, and more. but the structure of the music industry today just doesn't allow this happen...it's backwards....it has been since the days where the most respected and popular artists such as bethoven and bach....
