nice work philby. was the study for a project for final year geology? or was it assisting a researcher at uni? it must be a pretty remote field for an undergrad to get a research paper published.
so what is your cut for each copy if you dont mind me asking?

Well I just totally zinged Andrew Bolt on his forum if that counts:
| quote: | Comment: Yet again, Andrew, you have proven how far out-of-touch with mainstream Australian opinion you really are. While you sit around in inner-suburban cafes, sipping lattes with your similarly out-of-touch columnist friends, snubbing your noses at the sensibilities of the common Australian man, the nation on Wednesday night contented itself by revelling in one of the most spectacular celebrations of Australian values we have ever witnessed in our 105 years of federation.
While you may consider such a manifestation of mainstream Australian culture to be "bizarre" and - indeed - "embarrassing", I think the average Aussie battler saw the Opening Ceremony in a very different light. Perhaps if you had been able to step down from your ivory tower for just one night and deigned to join in the festivities of this great nation, you might have seen the pride on the faces of the average Australian people who packed into the MCG in their tens of thousands, just to be a part of this once in a life time event.
While you may s****** at our simple values and "cringe" at the displays that offend your elitist sensibilities, the feedback from average Australians was overwhelmingly positive. Your scurrilous attack on the Commonwealth Games opening ceremony is a sad indictment on just how isolated from the hopes and dreams of this nation you really are.
To be honest, this sort of elitist enclavism is a common problem amongst columnists such as yourself and it is starting to become damaging to the ethos of the country. If common Australian values are so "cringe-worthy" to you, might I suggest moving somewhere - perhaps France? - where such cultural-snobbiness is more likely to win you favour?
Andrew replies: Such anger, James. And yet my opinion seems to be shared by a lot of readers who don't drink lattes with my out-of-touch columnist friends, much as I don't either.
But now that you've spat out that poison, can you write back with a reasoned explanation this time of the duck, and why the ceremony was so good? I'm particularly interested to hear how the duck and Leunig fit in with the "simple values" of "average Australians" you purport to defend. I thought they were a better fit with the values of the inner suburban elite you profess to hate, but I could be wrong, of course. |

I don't think he quite picked up on my sarcasm, do you?
