I never agreed with the war in Iraq to begin with, and my being there didn't do much to change my opinion on that. Over time we've turned it in to a situation where its necessary that we are there to clean up the mess we made. I don't disagree that Saddam was a horrible dictator and that he should have been taken out of office, and if they want to throw that around they should have made that their reasoning in the first place. That along with the various violations of NFZ and crimes against humanity would have been fine, no? That was the reasoning for interfering in Somalia anyway. However if they're going with that why won't they take action on anything going on in Rowanda, Sudan, Congo, and other places with similar problems? Why turn a blind eye to them and focus on the Middle Eastern countries?
Perhaps if the Bush Administration were to just lay their cards on the table and give viable explanations for their actions instead of the same rhetoric we've all heard before it wouldn't be so bad. Or if they could have been honest and up front with the entire situation. Right now the adminstration doesn't have enough credibility and they're only digging themselves deeper as time goes on.
I'm a troop and I support the troops, but I don't have to support the actions of the officials appointed over me.
Addendum: I'd also like to say that the "Glass Parking Lot" tirades are childish and worn out. There is no simple solutions to the problems stemming from the Middle East, and there won't be any progress thats keeping up with the American people's patience. These are problems that reach back hundreds of years if not thousands. If we're going to work through these problems diplomacy and surgical strikes are whats needed. Not long lasting land wars or bombing campaigns that do nothing to benefit either side.
If you want your bloodthirst quenched join the Marines or become a mercenary.
